    Hello guys,

So i've recently purchased a copy of PA, and i seem to be experiencing some random crashes (sometimes in the 1st minute of the game, sometimes when i blow up the enemy commander, and some other times at just random moments).

The usual error states that pa.exe has encountered an error and needs to close, with the fault module changing most of the times. I had ntdll.dll, then the last crash resulted in the following fault module: stackhash_cfe8 which i have not been able to find on google in any sort of form.
Anyway, i'm not sure whether PA generates some sort of crash log and if it does where it is stored, but if you guys let me know what i should upload, i will.

In the meantime, here's my dxdiag file. I'd appreciate the help, as i'm totally loving the game, despite the limitations i'm currently experiencing!

Forgot to mention - i've encountered these crashes both on the Steam version and the Uber launcher one. I've also reinstalled the game several times, and this is a fairly fresh installation of Windows.
It's also worth noting that PA is the only game i'm experiencing crashes in.

If you win a game, you instandly get vision of everything i think. Loading in all the things you suddenly see can make your game freeze for some time, but usually it does respond in a few moments.

Unfortunately, it does not appear to be simply a hang that allows the game to resume afterwards.
When it crashes, game screen freezes, windows cursor appears on screen, and i can summon the task manager (ctrl alt del) since alt-tabbing does not work, to see the background error saying that pa.exe has encountered an error and needs to close.
That being said, it still does not explain the remainder of the crashes, unless of course i've end-game crashes caused by the sudden reveal of the units, along with some other issue causing crashes in the early and mid-game stages.
    Just thinking out loud here.

I've just played a 6-man ffa game, for about 30 minutes, no issues whatsoever, watched the replay, and when i tried to quit the game i got the following error:

    Hello,

Does your video card have enough VRAM?

512 MB is the bare minimum for playing PA. 1 GB or more of VRAM is highly recommended (I use a 2GB graphic card).

    Code:
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
    Display Memory: 4051 MB
Dedicated Memory: 467 MB <-- (or 512 MB)
    Shared Memory: 3583 MB
    Driver Date/Size: 7/2/2014 23:48:32, 17555104 bytes
I'm suspecting that this may be what's causing the random crashes, but I'll just wait until @SXX comes over here...

It's possible, though i could not identify a pattern based on which the game crashes, due to the VRAM always staying inside the 98-100% range when in PA.

While waiting for a reply, my google searches led me to believe that stackhash errors could be caused by the Data Execution Prevention Service in Windows 7, which i have now disabled \o/.

    Now i'm getting a different error >,>

you could try playing without headset, i have heard that Fmod(sound software used by PA) has some problems with certain headsets that can crash the game on some occasions.

I have tried doing a clean boot (all non microsoft services turned off, no startup software) and i managed to complete a 6 man ffa game with no errors.
Will test some more and if i still get the error, i will also unplug unnecessary peripherals and test that as well.

Aaaand it seems we have a winner.
It turns out that i would only get the crash when i had the Plantronics headsets from DxDiag, set as default device, as opposed to my other pair of headsets.
As soon as i started using those, all my issues went away.

I just bought this game on steam and I have the same issue of what appears to be random crashes. I haven't managed to get it running for longer than 5min. It crashed during startup, during game creation, in the main menu, several times after I managed to start a single player.

My system is A10-7850k, 8GB RAM, Win7 Ultimate x64. My graphics drivers are up-to-date from AMD directly version 14.9. No headset attached.

From what I can see I just wasted £££ for a game on steam that doesn't even run... not happy. -.-

    Suggestions highly appreciated.

    Hello @dispereo,

A Dxdiag would be greatly appreciated.

    Steps to obtain:

    1) Click the Windows button, then click Run. Type "dxdiag" without quotes.
    2) Press Enter.
    3) Click "Save All information" and upload the Dxdiag.txt in your next post.

Please check your SSD's page file and increase it:
    Code:
Page File: 3337MB used, 12985MB available
Based on the amount of RAM you have, you may want to make your page file at least 30 GB. PA does not like small page files.

Also, your drivers could use an update:
    Code:
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780
    Driver Version: 9.18.13.4411
    Driver Date/Size: 9/13/2014 14:48:03, 19954520 bytes
The latest drivers (v. 344.75) can be found on the Nvidia website:
    http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/79891/en-us

I am not very fond of the idea of posting the dxdiag publicly in a forum.

And from what I can see in this forum, the only thing that would (theoretically) apply to me would be the plantronics headset, however whether the headset nor its drivers/software are installed. Haven't used it since I got the new mainboard (and therefore Win7 was installed from scratch as well).

And before anyone asks: no I haven't got SSDs. Simple old style harddrives. :D

It's hard to help when we are not given more detailed information about your system. Something has to be weird on your system that makes it crash every time after all.
Maybe you can find a hint in the log files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\logs

Well, it can't be so weird, considering that I am not the only one reporting similar crashes.

The DxDiag only gives related hardware information (Hence; DirectX Diagnosis) and does not share anything else. The log you posted does not show any errors, which is making me think there is something wrong hardware wise, or it's the wrong log.

If you don't want to upload the DxDiag, just make sure your drivers are updated since they are the main cause of crashing.

Other than that there is nothing we can do.

    OK, here you go then.

I think my last "allround driver update check" was roughly a week ago. I also download drivers directly at the hardware component websites (ie. realtek) and not at the motherboard site (i.e. msi) as they are usually more up-to-date.

Do you use anything here? Your DxDiag looks fine. Maybe you uploaded the wrong PA.log?
