Well i was on the final boss of a faction.

4 vs 2 me and my co-pilot, i just happen to spawn on a planet with 2 bosses.. didn't go well.

So i eventually died and once i died the game showed the end game menu (never seen it before), with Return To War / Main Menu.

So i choose Return to War, stupidly apparently, thinking it would return me BACK to the game i have been playing as it does when you win.....

Nope, done, finished, your dead, game over, start from scratch, 2 weeks of game play = gone.

Why not change the wording to actually say "game over" or just remove it.

It is very miss-leading and frankly has just pissed me right off now with this game and the initial problems i have had with it.

Uber you do great and getting people to not want to play your games with the most stupid little details you seem to miss, your QA team should be fired if one exists....

well makes sense because you if you die, you die, and because you can make another game its is like the skirmish, but in a galact size

Ya, the wording does work both ways, but since Return to War when you win means back to the "same" war, i presumed that it would do the same if i died..

Not Return to War as in "start over and try again"

I guess this just irked me as i alt+f4 my way through the game when i had to cut it short a few times and was on the last boss....

Also being sick with a cold doesn't help the mood.

The game has no mechanics for loosing a battle, so therefor you loose the entire galactic war, just hit alt+f4 to get around it when your about to die, its a really stupid solution but it works

How to play for GW clearly says: "Annihilation is final"

GW is a rouguelike. It was clear it would be a roguelike. They all but used the word "roguelike" in every description.

You cannot retreat from a fight. If you got bad luck with starting positions hit Alt+F4 and try again.
Don't expect to win especially at the start.

This Alt-F4-thing is ridiculous - backing out of a fight should result in a loss, period.

I just have to wonder why they made it (a non-optional) game over on a single death.

People can sink hours into a single game, they can spend weeks on a GW playthrough. It just doesn't seem right to end it by stumbling upon a bug or bad spawns. It's extremely unsatisfying to lose though no fault of your own.

vyolin, sometimes real life occurs and you have to go and can't finish a game you started.

Other times ya, your just getting you butt kicked.

Aa liquius and other mentioned sometimes you get a crappy spawn / start and really with 2 enemies on your planet from the start your just getting hit with air raids non stop.

That is the part that got me, 2 weeks on and off i have been playing this war..actually 3 now that i think back and then i got over run by 2 enemies at the same time and poof! before i know it my dude is dead in a puff of blue smoke...

zgrssd,, then for me change the wording to be different from a successful win menu to make it clear, sorry, too bad, you got violated, time to start all over.

OR better yet, why not do a save option like SO many others are waiting for..

Oh, I am with you on that, trust me. I just find it hilarious that forced closing of the game is considered by some to be a viable alternative to proper UI/UX. If you have to pretend your single player RTS is a roguelike at least be consistent, good lord.
And yeah, ChronoCam is still the single best thing about this engine, in my opionion the only redeeming factor even, but sorely under-utilised.

Actually you can save your progress and reload a past save and replay it. Under Windows 7 the directory is at:
    C:\Users\<login name>\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment
Just copy that directory to another location and copy it back when you want to reload that save.

I expect that the saved game files are only a few in that directory, but since the directory copy worked, I never bothered to find out which ones they were. This worked a couple of months ago but I have not tried it lately, and I have not tried it after a new patch as been released.

I didn't like the no save game feature either.

I should note that this save process only works after the battles are over and you exit the game. Then you copy the files. In reverse you would copy the files back to the original directory, then start PA.

I guess the issue with "roguelike" is that a full GW game can take many many hours. It's not like a playthrough of FTL where you start a new attempt and you know it will be over after 2 or 3 hours or so, no matter if you win or die.

It is not only about losing, here is my stort about allies:

I played with 3 subcommanders, 2 of them hopelessly lost, while 3rd took over all metal spots on planet when i was busy killing 2 enemy commanders. I was to busy with winning war, my ally got most of mexes and huge economy, he made huge army and never went trough teleport. His huge army lagged game so much that I could not finish game. So I build 2 nukes, assigned lots of fabbers and went for dinner. After 1 hour those nukes were ready, my ally got what he deserved. Then i finished off last enemy commander in few minutes.

Also sometimes last boss with 4 planets and 3 subcommanders can be quite challenging, esp when more than 2 planets can have halleys. It is difficult to nuke all 3 remaining planets in time. Also halleys needs better alert and a bit more time to escape with commander. If i have more than single planet i build teleport and keep commander next to it. But zooming out and checking which planet is targeted then running commander trough teleport usually takes more than other planet to travel trough space and impact. This should be much longer time, i say 2-3 minutes not 20seconds.
