Let me preface by saying I love the game, but its unplayable due to the default mouse bindings. I've posted this on the very active Steam planetary annihilation forum and nobody is responding. It seems nobody has any idea which is a huge problem not being discussed. For me (I don't know if other people have this), the game default binds my middle mouse button to the planet rotation. So, I have to press and hold the middle mouse button to rotate planets. This is NOT a good button for this. It's not easy to hold a middle mouse button for precision rotation. I can't play the game correctly nor enjoyably w/ this default binding. Nowhere in settings (I've looked extensively) is this alterable. It doesn't seem you can even bind mouse buttons anywhere. Is this how it is SUPPOSED to be? I get NO feedback from anyone on the steam forums and its a game-breaking problem. How is this not discussed at all? You can't rebind damn mouse buttons. What gives? Anyone? Thanks
From what I've read from old threads, this is just how it is. Ya um.. thats not acceptable. It's like playing REAL strategy games (AoE, total annihilation) and having to move around the map using middle mouse button. WHAT? I wrote an awful review on steam and I'm going to get a refund as it's clear that mouse bindings are not coming any time soon. Apparently thats not relevant in an RTS game according to Uber entertainment.
Depends on your mouse. On my it works fine and I really like it. Though you can reconfigure to use wasd for camera movement. There is a group of people who do that. Also removed profanity from your post bak2skewl EDIT: Also on my mouse I can rebind the mousebutton on the mousedriver level. Maybe you can do the same?
Have you tried WASD? Anyways if you want to rebind everything so that you are comfortable with it I suggest downloading Planetary Annihilation Mod Manager and download HotBuild2 (too lazy to link the forum posts, just search them). PAMM has lots of neat mods in there if you are also interested in it (also get PAstats, really helpful mod for showcasing replays and has a matchmaking system with custom maps).
I have a logitech g5 its a great mouse. Nothing wrong with it. Pushign down a raised, scrollable button and having to hold it is not enjoyable on ANY mouse. nobody uses it in games for a reason. but its forced by default here. I've read enough on these forums to understand whats going on here. I've already requested a refund and I will not be backing human resources. Awful game and developers.
That's a pretty extreme view of hating the middle mouse button, but you're free to have it. Though it IS possible to mod PA to use another mouse button, there is just not a setting for it. If you're interested into that, I can post you a quick tutorial how to do it.
Thanks for the help but I consider any game that needs mods to be playable to be an utter failure. I'll check out the mods though
Regardless of whether or not you view what I think as "extreme", why is this not part of the game. Do you not think that bindable mouse buttons is a standard in 99.9999999% of games. Is this piece of work somehow an exception? I guess UBer jus knows how everyone wants to play their masterpiece.
I dunno what games you play, but I doubt there are many games that allow you to really freely rebind all mouse buttons. You don't have to further explain you really don't like the middle mouse button, I don't get why. I have a G5 as well and I have been playing many many many hours with that button. It's a subjective thing if you like it or not, I accept that.
You need to stop man. I dont know what games you play but every game I know of lets you rebind mouse buttons. That's a STANDARD. I know it must pay you well to defend Uber but please don't make a fool of yourself
I mean I'll list a few maybe you havn't heard of them but Age of mythology, age of empires, crusader kings, cruasder kings 2, counter-strike, battlefield, titanfall, the list goes on to infinity.
I am not defending Uber on this, I really just state that I like middle mouse. I am heavy into modding PA, I know how to rebind the key by changing a few numbers in a textfile within a few minutes. I don't. Why? Because I like this way to control the camera and I can play quite fast with it. I agree on many other mistakes of Uber (offline mode...), but I like my middle mouse button. EDIT: I've just opened the one other game I am currently playing a bit: EVE online and checked: can't rebind the mouse buttons. Based on my memory it was also not possible to rebind them in Supreme Commander.
He does not work for uber at all, he has merely earned there trust as an avid poster and modder of PA, so he received the title moderator
ya but EVE doesnt make you click middle mouse button for anything. And as far as I remember you can definitely bind side mouse buttons.
Oh come on... Just because it works on your mouse, doesn't mean it works with other mice too. E.g. on most Logitech mice, the scroll wheel has additional resistance to prevent accidental clicking, plus a shape which makes it more difficult to apply force. Even more so on mice with 4-way scroll wheels. In oder to be able to play PA properly, I had to remap one of the side buttons to middle mouse click with external software, and that can't be the solution.
Maybe yes. I have my middle mouse buttons configured to be shift and ctrl in the mousedriver. PA allows you to rebind pretty much every single key of your keyboard. The mouse controls are the few they forgot so far, that's unfortunate for sure, no question.
@exterminans thats how mine is I believe. It's somewhat resistant and its very round and not easy to click. I mean its doable but not for a common and crucial action like rotating planets.
The funny part is I have a logitech G5. The exact same mouse as the OP. But sure as I said, it is somewhat unfortunate that the mouse button so far is hardcoded. Maybe my hands are just malformed from years of playing supreme commander, breaking 2 mousewheels in the process.
No I don't know. But they might have seen this thread. Would be nice of them to implement it for sure.
