Remove expensive elements from the out-of-game UI to to improve responsiveness. Currently, the scrolling watermarks in many screens, and the game title on the start screen. I left them alone for a while because it looked cool, and the CPU isn't really doing anything useful, right? Today I was editing some key bindings back from special tournament settings, and was experiencing noticeable typing lag. I deleted the watermark items and it went away. Here is what my CPU though of activating the mod for the first time (setting screen) I don't have a beefy computer by any means, so your milage may vary. - https://github.com/JustinLove/lightweight_menus - http://wondible.com/pa/lightweight_menus_v1.1.0.zip
The giant scrolling text at the back seems to stop after 30 seconds (vanilla). While it's moving my CPU is at nearly 60% on all 4 cores, and then when it stops (or when I have this mod on) it goes down to 30%. WTF?.. Why is the scrolling text so ludicrously CPU intensive? Nice mod anywho, thanks!
I haven't noticed my fan spinning up unexpectedly, have you? I have noticed that the GW map is surprisingly CPU intensive, but fixing that would probably be a lot more invasive.
Delisted; it seems that all these elements have been removed, though the scrolling name may still be in classic start screen. Don't remove it, or grab the zip if thats you.
