I grew up playing Total Annihilation. When I met my biological father, who abandoned me after meeting him, he had this game Total Annihilation. This would have been back in 1997 or slightly after its release. At the time TA was pretty much NEW. He wouldn't let me play it sadly, but I gazed in wonder. Then I returned home (I spent a summer with him before he re-abandoned me), and I found the game about a year later on sale. I played it obsessively. I had been a Starcraft fan at the time, but to me Total Annihilation was everything I every wanted Starcraft to be. Big epic battles with scores of units. I was never entirely fond of the low unit count of Starcraft, as good a game as it is. I preferred epic battles.
Then we had Supreme Command, a supremely entertaining game! BUT it had a huge flaw. If you wanted drawn out games, with lots of units, the game would bog down, regardless of even todays PCs. I have an 8 core AMD FX8350 with 16gb of DDR3 1600 Ram, and SupCom still bogs down after about 1 hour of game play, if there are many units. I think it's a unit thing perhaps. In any case, I loved the game, but it was flawed.
Thus, Planetary Annihilation came to exist!! I kickstarted it with $115 of my student loan money when I heard about it! It was about 2-3 years before the game was satifactorily playable. I'm wearing my yellow backer shirt as I write this, with PA in the background playing music, minimized. I'm decently happy with the current rendition of Titans, as it's become very playable, and seems bug free now.Interact
