I was fine with this game in its current state being called beta, but calling a game that really feels incomplete a full release is a good way to loose a large amount of potential fans. I feel the single player is lacking a lot. I always enjoyed Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander because you could actually rely on base defenses to defend your base, and the units did feel different. I think that the current state of the game has removed all of that and ended up making it more generic rather than doing something to stand out. The only thing that really stands out is the scale which is all well and good, but when you just need to build as many factories as you can and build as many units as you can and just mob the enemy rather than actually trying to come up with some strategy to win.

eco strats lead to larger army, larger army beats smaller army... kinda how rts's work... it just in this game with a full planet to attack around its hard to make defense choke points and win by turtling...

not to mention mountains and cliffs and sorts where scaled WAY down to help with pathing, while it *sorta* worked, it took out a lot of the visual appeal of planets that we saw early beta/alpha

I feel the same way.The gaming experience is great and brings lot of hope for the future of a successul franchise. But why release it now? Was the money from the early acces not enough to keep going with the game develloppement ? Releasing as it is now might give a cash flow burst short term but raise a concern in the mind of a lot of potential buyers.

Long term economic decisions aren't much more comfortable either.

We all gonna think it was a bad decision until Uber make a official post explaining the reasons (tbh I don't think they will do that).

Two years develloppement is pretty fast and the game is still rapidly improving. For sure it doesn't look like a stalled project.

Is this another "they should not have realeased" thread, with a mixed in "that all bad" rant?
So I guess only a time till it devolves into a "the game is doomed" thread or "i complain because I care".
Unlesss you got a time-machine it is pretty much pointless.

Why should they not release? It is their goal to succeed. Release was a step along that path. They are at least as smart as me, so they are certainly able to decide when is a good point to release.´A thousand times more likely then some player who has no idea about the plan, the environment or the work to be done.
    http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscroll...a_zenimax_doesnt_actually_want_their_game_to/

That leaves you with your opinion (that is apparently not even founded on personal skill) and them with thier combined skill (that they do not have to explain).

    People disagree with your OP.
They are ahving fun with the game as it is.
The focus was always MP and they are having trounaments.
The game provided mod support and with that we made a ladder (pastats).
Multiplayer does not need asavegame or offline mode
And everything else you can bring up is pretty much "that was never planned" or "they get ot it in due time".

I am just angry about the lack of QC.. Its appalling
If they just held of release in till they have wiped out most of the bugs and offline mode etc etc then they wont get such bad reviews from people who don't visit these forums almost everyday.

"They should not have released" in a different guise. Please jsut stop saying that already. It is pointless and repetitive.
I highly doubt you have either the knowledge or experience to evaluate wheter it was a good idea or not. So please stop trying to, you only come across as sounding arrogant.

I think they know what the heck they are doing, because they actually have experience in the gaming industry.
And even I with only my basic economics knowledge can see how it can be the right decision (based on factors we are not privy too).

So please just stop with "they should not have released".

Upsetting the offline community won't help either. Please keep an open mind. This question of time of release is all over the forums as you noted yourself. Play the game and be happy attitude isn't going to bring a closure. There a couple of theories floating around the only way to end it is to bring in the light an official explanation. Is there is one around there,it isn't easily found . The only one I've found is from the community manager

Sound like play the game and be happy, too.

Beside the game project isn't the issue here. Just point us to the epic amount of reasons that led to this release.

I found one in this thread

    https://forums.uberent.com/threads/regarding-some-details-well-be-releasing-today.63185/page-4

from the community manager. I can't quote the thread being closed. So I paste Brad's answer here:

yeah, like, can we just take a moment and celebrate how far this game has come and where we're at together instead of de-railing it with drm stuff?

one thing i did want to point out -- it seems like a fair bit of you are kinda asking the same thing: what is launch? what makes 1.0, you know, 1.0?

we feel like 1.0 is the realization of the vision we have for the game. take a step back, and you'll see a game where you can treat celestial bodies like interplanetary billiard balls. or a game where you can build a ludicrous amount of units and bash them into another ludicrously big army. or a game where you can take a galaxy over and over again not by sheer force, but by creativity. you can transfer units across planets or use them as homeworlds. soon, you'll be able to mine gas giants and blow up stuff in a brand new way. this game is huge. it's inspiring. it's what we wanted it to be.

and we're really proud of it.

    End of Brad's answer.

So be it that the way they wanted to released it. Too bad it opens the wild guessing about a more pragmatic reason that have to be kept in the shadow.

This would be true if customer and producer would aim for the same goal.

    Which they're not.

In other words, what you're saying is that customers should never complain because sellers know better.

In reality it is not even that simple. They might have not been willing to release, but forced by factors we're not allowed to know.

I think part of the problem is *every single customer* has their own expectation of what the game should be. This is compounded by the fact this was a Kickstarter game- so we all *feel* more involved in the development than we might otherwise.

Uber have a very specific vision of what they want to do, some feel that isn't close enough to TA for their liking, others that it deviates away from progress made in SupCom, and others would like something completely different (e.g. spaceships and so on). I think they're in a difficult position as whatever they do will upset someone.

As for if the game was ready to ship or not? I doesn't matter now, the game is out- the main thing is to think about what's next... I think we can all agree that getting the offline mode out of the door is important (and based on their comments Uber are on board with this too).

That comparision failes. You either already bought the game or are thinking about buying it.
Even for subscriber games it is a very weak argument.

If you bought it you have access and no amount of "this is not finished" is going to detract from the actuall good stuff.
If you did not have it yet, you wait. Nobody has problem, but you have nothing to complain about.

I have to agree. This is the core game they promised, with almsot the entire stretch goals already worked into it (GW is missing some large parts, but that is it).
Everything they said it would be able to do you can do. The bad arguments are fringe stuff like "no offline mode", "no savegame".

Balance issues don't concern me. They can be tweaked and probably will be forever.

Bugs bother me, though. I played way back when (I have over 400 hours logged) and took a break for a few months. When I saw it was "released", I decided to fire it back up.

I still have match login issues sometimes. Games still crash (apparently at the server level) sometimes. T1 units swarms still bog down the game (I still think it's when you get a tight group of them that are trying to space themselves out but can't -- e.g., all factories go to the same exit point and there's a huge clump).

Player built maps is a lot of rope to hang yourself with (it's very easy to build maps that are no fun and/or stupid to play on) but I imagine the community will figure it out eventually.

But the server dumps and T1 bog downs are very distracting.
