I still don't understand why Uber decided to move to release when they did?

Sure, the game can be fun and yes it has some great features... but it doesn't feel finished (never mind polished) and it's pretty clear many people are inclined to agree.

Right now we have a crazy backlash on steam ect over the lack of promised features in the 'released' version too and who knows how many customers that's driving away.

I literally cant fathom why Uber wouldn't hold back another month or two and get all the little (big) bits nailed down before they went full release. It seems obvious to me that taking PA out of 'early access' and into release is saying to everyone the game is stable, polished and feature complete: yet PA isn't any of those things.

Maybe someone could suggest some reasoning to me, because I just don't get it and I don't know whether to feel stupid or sad. Stupid if this is come kind of Uber master plan which will actually help PA succeed in the long run, or sad if this really is the mistake it seems and the rush to release has hurt PA's longevity.

we talk as much as we can, man. there's just nothing to say when it comes to hurtful arguments and tinfoil hat theories.

another way to put it? i've spent an epic amount of time talking about the reasons we released. and i still hear weird tinfoil hat theories about the whys and hows. the worst is the idea that i need to discuss with someone the reasons why they think our game is bad. i'm not here to argue. i'm here to inform and be me.

moving forward, we'll be talking about the features we're releasing and focusing on the game. if you guys choose to be excited, awesome! if not, we'll try to do ya better.

There definitely is a parade somewhere, I mean looking at the new users per day of PA Stats one can clearly tell when release was:

    wow

this makes me believe we need PAstats to be either integrated to PA or be linked to in PA's main menu (yes not hidden in the tabs but right smack dab on your screen) so that more people are encouraged to get it.

It's insane the number of things this mod does and the fantastic mods that have been made as an extension of it.

Are you keeping up with Starbound development? Slower than Ubers for an easier game. However, they do work on it. Sometime I suspect part time.

Negative aside, they release builds nightly like Uber does pte, and their main builds are months apart only because they only release tens of completely working features. From what I seen, they give weekly development diaries showing their workweek, and their current build has me betting on a stable build in a month but no later than years end.

it too isn't an ideal model. But I play starbound. Honestly the nightly build adds a race, ship upgrades, more tutorial, more procedural fetchquests, more dungeons, more planet types, and better wording to emphasize tier difference in metal like rods instead of bars.

The peak after release (2801) is merely as big as the peak shortly before release, so I doubt the launch really make the playerbase bigger at all. I know a lot of PA players don't use steam, but it is still a useful indicator for the game's status.

PAStats isn't only measuring the steam side. If it noticed something its likely.

I won't lie, steam sales indicate heavy purchase traffic for the game. At least one reddit accepts the game as enjoyable to learn due to difficulty and signature different playstyle.

I still don't think its as big or small as speculated, I bet it probably adds as many to gamma as gamma did to beta. This game is one large push at a time, not just all the players at once.

I don't see how people complain about kickstarter, it's a means of funding something, and therefore they have to release its versions early and show everything they can... Thier main mistake was to release the game early when it was not done. (que bitching about the unit cannon, optimization, and single player offline)

Wow! That there SteamCharts is a pretty cool data viz tool. Between that and the paMatches data, it's nice to see some hopeful trends. It'd be awesome to see a chart of like, "Total Hours Played" or like "Hours Played / day." I wonder if we'd see more of a definite upward trend?

It seems to be that there are those who frickin' love this game and will see it through (most of us here on the forums), and those that are expecting something else. I dunno. I guess I'm working through a lot of different feelings! Gonna keep trying to rope in more friends in the meanwhile!

And maybe hold off on that parade flag until we get a unit cannon.... :p j/k!
