Open it, open it, unless there's a big evil robot bear behind it

Last time I played there was a crater but the units floated on top of it

I'm pretty sure it has commander death animation because commander died in it.

Possibly. But there were two commander explosions, and only one commander on the planet.

one thing i miss to be honest is that big splosions had a bit of a shake to them ... gave them a nice feel of UMPH ..
realy would like to have that back ... the shake just should be there when you are close to the explosion with the camera ... doesnt need to be even much ...

Already had that in a game couple weeks back, so it's not really new.

This has been happening for a couple of months I think. I spent a while trying to do "accidental" collisions intentionally (created a planet with 10 moons, then launched another planet at it to see if it could get through :D). That was back in July, before the Summer hols.

No more Brad missin' bases with planets I guess. But I like it though. Well maybe not that the planet vanishes, there should be a debris field or a massive rock of lava left behind.

I think it depends on the planet vs planet size ratio, if they are equal in size, they both get annihilated completely and vanish.

The one at the famous PAX match with Brad was pretty big, smaller than the target but not much, at least 2/3 of it's size. It should have destroyed ( with that I mean destroying units on the surface) the planet by at least more than half. :D

    Its quite simple

If the planet being used (by thrusters) is larger then the planet being smashed (one you ordered to crash into) then the planet will smash into it and continue on into an orbit, albeit with a large crater in it "aKa the battering ram winning"

If both planets are of near equal size, they will both be wiped out

If the planet being used is smaller then the planet being smashed, then the planet will slam into the larger planet, and leave a crater, and nothing will remain of the planet.

even incidental/natural smashes will follow this line if they do it head on, but glancing works differently and to be honest, i have only seen a few cases of glancing blows...but are always interesting, because both planets survive but it depends on size proportion and how much surface area each planet collided with.

Most of the time I think, yeah. I tried it about 20 times; around 2/3 made it through! I was a bit surprised at the success rate actually.
