What is "draw prim"?

My FPS in PA is reasonable, sticking at 60FPS until the game really gets hectic. I have all settings turned to their lowest (or off if possible) except for virtual texture which is set to medium. However I get debilitating FPS drops when I zoom in or out - going from 60FPS to <10FPS. Using control+P I found that "draw prim" is causing the majority of this FPS lag. Are there any solutions to this issue? Below are my relevant PC specs and I will provide an Uberprobe if required:

    Fx-6300 (3.5Ghz)
    GTX 660 OC 2GB
    8GB RAM

Here's the uber probe. It seems to happens on maps with trees and desert maps. When I tried with a lava map the issue was significantly better.

    Just added a DxDiag.

I think it's good idea to provide it even if nobody of developers asked about that yet.
It's would improve your chances to get proper answer and problem solved. :)

Sure, I'll get one up within the next few hours.

EDIT: My main issue with the uberprobe is that it only captures a 500ms snapshot. As the problem only occurs when I'm rotating or zooming in I have to stop doing that to hit f11 so it's fairly awkward.

Draw Prim = Draw Primitives or The construction of the 3D geometry using triangles and/or algorithm's.

I guess when you spin the planet it's making a lot of draw calls.
I think its scene's where a lot of batch rendering is happening (trees or biomes with lots of brushes) it's having a harder time rendering the scene with the new graphics stack..

I fresh installed the game last night and seem to get big performance drops when rendering lots of trees up close.

That explains why the desert type map with trees on one side was such a performance hit. Is there going to be a fix? It's infuriating to have the game stutter so much when I rotate or zoom because I do both almost constantly.

I was running on a much weaker system than yours with no such lag. What OS are you on?

If windows can you provide a dxdiag?

(my machine was a Phenom II x3 @ 2.6ghz + GTX560 and I was running on medium with no issue at all)...

When I get to my PC I'll upload one. I'm on win7 and the problem seems to be on rocky and tree-filled maps.

Ok I added the DxDiag. As I said I'm sure it has something to do with either trees or the desert biome.

Well there's nothing obviously wrong with your DXDiag, just thought it was worth a look. Out of interest, is this on a map you created a while ago? Uber have updated planet generation recently and I've noticed a few of my older maps are buggy- usually opening and saving them again in system editor solves the problems though...

Nope. Both times I tested it yesterday were on randomly generated systems.

Are you using any mods? I had behaviour like this a while a go but that was cured in more recent builds. The Promethean 'Home' system for the Clan Wars features a very large planet *covered* in trees and I can view that with no problem (and that was before I updated my proc, now got an FX8320 which should be effectively same speed as your for PA)...

No mods either. I disabled them after the launch build came out.

Ah so you *did* have mods before? Even if they're turned off PA loads the mods folder so old mods can cause problems. If you use the Uber launcher- go into the settings (under your name, top right in the launch screen) and add the tag "--nomods" into the command line options. That will prevent PA from looking at the mods folder at all, just in case a previously installed mod is screwing with something (it may have no effect but it's worth ruling that one out just in case!).

I use steam instead of the uber launcher and have my mods disabled in PAM. If it's still worth a try please can you tell me how to remove the mods with my setup (steam).

Ah ok, I'm not sure how to access command line options from within steam. However as a quick test could you try the Uber Launcher (go to store.uberent.com and sign in with your forum detials and download the launcher). Uber allow steam users to use the launcher so that is probably the easiest option.

Failing that you may be able to apply the "--nomods" switch by browsing to the PA folder in steam (from memory the games in steam can be found in "programme files\steam\steam apps" directory). You should be able to add the command line to the PA.exe in there if you right click on it and go to 'Properties' I think.

    It....it worked......
    Why did it work?
Thank you so much! Now I can actually enjoy the game! :D:D:D:D
