The I apologise for not reading the sarcasm.

But no, this single unit will not solve the problem.

I tried a mass Astreus invasion, with a mix of tanks, AAA, and flamers. I didn't land them immediately, but at one point the whole mass of landers moved over the AI base, and began firing on the AI.

I assume it was either a bug or maybe the AAA units are capable of firing from orbit, but the end result was a dead commander and a win for me. I never expected the ability to fire from landers, and from what I could see, the ground units weren't firing back.

Bug? Exploit? Working as intended? Hallucination on my part? Very new player, btw, only about 4-5 matches (all GW) under my belt.

Might be a bug. If you post the lobby ID of the game you played, people can look at it and judge.

To find the lobby ID, pick the "REPLAYS" button from the main menu, change the view to "My Recent Games", and you'll see the lobby id in the rightmost column.

That sounds heavily like a bug, but then again I have not tried planetary invasions for some time (not if I can just haley or nuke the enemy at least and normally I invade on the other side of the planet).

Normally the only orbital things able to shoot ground and airspace should be:
SXX (ground only) and Anchor (ground & air). Asteryus carried units inability to fire is one of thier big weaknesses.

I will give it a try and see if I can reproduce it in GW.

    Here's the lobby ID: 13797863565811640754
Upon further review, it seemed like only the Infernos were firing from orbit.

So I can watch replays from other players, even their single player games? Interesting!

Yes, the replay feature is extremely cool.

Anyway, that definitely seems like a bug. You should post it in this thread in the support forum, including the lobby ID, the build number and whether you were playing in the PTE environment, and the chronocam time at which the bug happened (52:15).

You can also directly file a bug at the tracker here or, if you like, I can file one on your behalf.

I'll take care of the bug filing, but thanks for the offer!
    What is the "PTE environment?"

That's the "Public Test Environment" used for allowing players to test pre-release builds with the latest fixes when they're available. If you are using the Uber launcher, there's a dropdown after you log in that will let you switch between stable builds and PTE builds. Steam, I think, lets you access the pre-release builds as well but I'm unfamiliar with how that works.

If you're not familiar with it, you're almost certainly on the stable build.

I jsut tried it too in a GW game, using one of each T1 & T2 Vehicle in asteryus.
At least Sheller, Vanguard, Spinner and flametank fired as if thier waepons where on the "ground point" the astreyus was over, but only the Shellers (artillery) weapon reached the ground. The other seemed to just puff out of existance around thier maximum range along the Z axis.

Somebody would have to try the bots as I lack those completely in that game (by intention).

I only had t2 air in that game, with a vehicle load out.

Try 100-200 astraeus, and scout for the com, so you can snipe it when landing.

It's borderline impossible if you have no advanced tech at all and the AI is throwing around Nukes like they're confetti. Anti-nukes of course require an advanced vehicle to build.
The only reason I've been able to actually break planets without going down the absurd mirco-heavy astreas option is because I have complete orbital so Sxx.
All the wonderful game-enders are wonderful except I've only once had them in any GW game; at the very start of one of my first games, which I promptly lost (didn't have advanced tech anyway).

    Suggestions:
    - Allow construction of anti-nuke without an advanced fabber.
    - Split the game-enders up rather than having them as a single card (but include a low-drop single card for all of them too).
    - More effective AA.
