Ok, so here's what's up. I've seen ranking systems in RTSs that make no sense. They use actual military ranks, which is great, but the problem is, they start from private... and I'm sure you can deduce that no private is and probably never will be in charge of an army. "Okay," we say, "Let's just use the high-up ranks!" These are called Officers, as I'm sure you've heard, and I would use them, but there are only ten. So we could go 2nd Lieutenant 1st Lieutenant Captain Major Lieutenant Colonel Colonel Brigadier General Major General Lieutenant General General but that would be annoying, redundant and stupid. Even if we included Warrant Officers (which are between officers and enlisted (the low down guys) would be dumb, because there are only five of them and the names are kinda redundant in themselves: Warrant Officer Chief Warrant Officer 2 Chief Warrant Officer 3 Chief Warrant Officer 4 Chief Warrant Officer 5 So, let's not go with military ranks, as its just not set up for that. We need to have an original something, and UBER is great at doing original stuff. So at the most we could have military-inspired ranks, but not too many, they need to come from PA Examples: Sector Chief Pole Chief Sector Commander Pole Commander Planetary Commander Terrestrial Subcommander Terrestrial Commander Weapons Planetary Commander (refers to metal planets and smashable planets) System Commander Celestial Commander Quadrant Commander Galactic Commander Lieutenant Commander (incidentally a navy rank lol) Commander "Oh no not enough ranks" Well let's take some advice from the COD franchise and add roman numerals (EDIT: I changed roman numerals (at least with commanders) to subcommanders. Sector Chief Sector Chief II O-1 Pole Chief Pole Chief II O-2 Sector Subcommander Sector Commander O-3 Pole Subcommander Pole Commander O-4 Planetary Commander Terrestrial Commander O-5 Weapons Planetary Subcommander Weapons Planetary Commander O-6 System Subcommander System Commander O-7 Celestial Subcommander Celestial Commander O-8 Quadrant Subcommander Quadrant Commander O-9 Galactic Subcommander Galactic Commander O-10 Lieutenant Commander II Commander O-11 Boom, turn 12 ranks into 22. You can add lower ranks too: Installation Commander, Fabrication Commander, putting these at the very bottom. One might even consider "Faction Commander" as top rank. Anything is possible. Post what you think of these ranks ad any more that you might choose.
The usual 'military' rank systems are pretty silly anyway. Just big sounding names taken from reality for easy to impress people. But hey, you are SERGEANT OF THE MASTER SERGEANTS MOST IMPORTANT PERSON OF THE EXTREME SERGEANTS TO THE MAX!!!!! and that's a good thing, isn't it? There is the question if we need ranks at all, if PA benefits more from simple numbers, or it might be for the best if ranks are just hidden. It's nice to know were you are, but people tend to obsess over them. All that rationality aside, a simple league system imo would be best. I'd prefer names taken from alloys, though. Fits more to the theme, and commander name's just get old. It's much more fun to talk about people in brass league.
Psssh no one obsess over ranks you stupid Sector Chief lol And Master Sergeant is really the only one you got in there XD
That was the single reason why i played Halo reach for as long as i did. The ranking system was flawless
Halo 3 had the best rank system in my opinion. Mainly because ranking up was based more around skill than in game time. Heck, you'd lose XP if you left a game before it was finished.
Yeah. I really enjoyed working through the ranking system. Leveling up and getting access to new armor. I was damn good at that game and had a bad *** looking Spartan.
I'd love this mixed in with a competitive ranking system so that only a few people can have the really high ranks and ELO determines who has the high rank, rather than just a level+ prestige system (boring). Then we can recognise who are the really top players.
The server should hold what rank someone is so that it is impossible to change by editing your files. However, your computer can hold a copy so you can see it if you are offline, and you can change it, but it would reset after going online.
Yup, ranks should be based off of what percentile you are. Most matchmaking systems do that already I don't know why you would change your online match making rank offline though.
I like the concept, unique ranks compared to military ones. I suggest using sub-commander as a pre-entry rank to the next rank. Terrestial Sub-Commander Terrestial Commander Interplanetary Sub-Commander Interplanetary Commander Star System Sub-Commander
