Hmm okay. The edit in that post says "Turns out Zaphod was wrong. This isn't offline, this is just Uber's test servers." so does that mean it's not soon like the title says?
The server has not yet been released because Uber is still working on integrating it into the game in a way that is easy and seamless to use. It will be here soon and once that happens you can play offline. On PAX Uber used local servers, which is just what we will use. However the setup at PAX most likely was completely user unfriendly and cannot be released like that. There isn't really a difference between "ubers local test servers" and "offline mode" apart from user friendlyness. Uber can't really release a server that requires people to compile it and run some complex commands in a commandline or the like. (no idea on the exact limits, but I imagine it really is among the lines of having to configure it by hand via textfiles or similar things)
No the server is still coming soon. He was right in essence, offline and lan will hopefully be here within a month.
While I personally also hope that it will be that timeframe there is no guarantee on any timeframe apart from "soon" right now. *Just to prevent any rumors from growing*
That's why I said hopefully, I've learned not to assume due to the fact everyone assumed it'd be at release.
