The game is out, yet it surprises me that lava is just a flat texture. Don't get me wrong, the planets look amazing, what I'm just confused about is why they never implemented Lava oceans.

Is it so hard to implement this?

Still closer to water than to flat ground.

They did have 'lava pools' in earlier builds (the lava wasn't animated though I don't think, but the pools had hard edged 'cliffs' around them). It caused *a lot* of pathing problems so they changed it. I think the game has a different pathing system now that takes better account of 3D features so maybe this is something that will get looked at again.

    Kinda.

But yeah, I too want 'better' lava, but that doesn't have to mean water/lava, we can have huge pillowy mounds of lava bubbling up.

The aeevs cliff mod has planets that have cool lava pools actually

They need to reimplement tides (so bummed they took that out).

Then take water, slow it down a whole lot, and give it a red, non-opaque color: presto! Lava

    Ehh....I dunno.

Needs more rocks of un-molten rock and such inside the lakes to really fill them out. More volcanoes.

Ideally yes, but, this would be an 'easy' start

Can someone show me what you guys mean with the tides? Seemed I missed that part during development :(

The main problem I have with lava as it is currently is that it looks too thin.
Like, just look at real lava.

PA lava just looks like orange kool-aid in comparison. It's just not thick-looking enough.

+1 for lava glow on a otherwise dark planet.

    also +5 for darker planets.

BTW, they have animated texture on gas giants... why not apply something similar to lava?

    I shall oblige you then:

This is a tournament I casted mid beta, if you pay attention to the coastlines you can see the oceans rise and fall.

My suggestions on this topic from another thread. 1. Allow cracks (like the ones we see on earth type planets) on lava planets. 2. Allow the lava to fill the cracks its connected too like the water does. 3. Create small terrain features that can only be on lava which resemble the lava bubbling slowly.

I always thought it was weird that there were not any cracks on lava planets. It seems like those would be the perfect place for them!

I recall having played on lava planets with cracks that had lava in them.
Although I can't say I have seen any recently. Might be something they took out, or I might just have rotten luck with planet generation.

Either way, that has been in the game at some point.
