So. Game loads fine from update screen, choose galactic war, load new system. I can move around the star system, picking up new techs etc. All menus work. As soon as I meet an enemy commander, and select fight, the game begins to load. As soon as it appears to start loading ingame, it crashes. Graphics card drivers are up to date. Attached is my DxDiag. This problem has been going on for a while now (previous versions of the kickstarter campaign) although I can't remember exactly.
The amount of RAM you have is very low. Only 4GiB, which is the absolute minimum for PA. On top of that, you have a 32-bit version of Windows, which means that it would not even be able to use all of it. You might want to install a 64-bit version of Windows 7. The thing you can try now however, is to update your graphics drivers. According to your DxDiag.txt, they are over a year old. The card you have, ATI Radeon HD 4800, is quite old though (6 years?), so newer drivers might not be even available.
Your problem caused by 32-bit OS memory limitations: Code: Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.140303-2144) Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 3328MB RAM For more information and workaround check this topic: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/648816742979172000/
Oh wow. Thanks for the quick reply. I've updated them, which I'm guessing you're right in saying no more updates are available. A shame as the beta ran fine! I understand new elements have been added however. A 64 bit install may well be my next step, although it's looking like a general upgrade is going to be needed!!
Yeah, this game has grown quite a bit since beta. It's very sensitive on the drivers. Mainly because the engine is OpenGL based, rather than the more commonly used Windows-only DirectX stuff. And, yeah, it's quite the memory hog, so make sure your new setup has at least 8 GiB, or better yet, 16 GiB. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can try installing Lubuntu on the side. The Linux-driver do still have support for your card, I think. And it's 64-bit and easy on the RAM usage, so that would help as well. But it's quite different from Windows, so there might be a steep learning curve involved. You can install it side-by-side with Windows though. And you can try SXX's suggestion first of course.
