I live in Canada, internet is painfully expensive, slow and unless you pay through the nose, stupid bandwidth caps.

Though my parents got a really old internet plan where the bandwidth caps don't seem to be enforced (I can download ~200 GB a month with no penalty, cap is around 100 GB)

I'm going to start an internet business just to help you poor Canadians

The internet speed in the UK used to be awful. Then a new competitor came in and since then our two biggest ISPs have been slowly making the internet better due to increased competition.

Who knew competition caused companies to make their product better.

I'm in the usa I have 100mbs down and 20mps up. I am paying for it though, I think my monthly tv&internet bill is right at 120$ but hey maybe I will be able to have us a server

It always has been that way. We've got some 5 or more major Internet providers (usually along with TV, I've got 120 channels in the price, and/or a mobile phone subscription) and there may be dozens of local Internet providers. Of course when you leave cities the amount of Internet providers decreases to just a few and often the speed does but so does the price.
