My two cents ....you're taking huge risks.

You'd be surprised, the brightness literally is terribly dark considering what I'd expect. :p

Dark and light is always relative. you can pull the blinds a little on your window and the screen will seem a whole lot brighter.

Not true, I've played in pitch black, still relatively dark. Like I said it's an old monitor.

Almost all eye damage is genetic, you're not going to damage your vision from your computer monitor, but you can cause temporary eye strain and tiredness. Or it could be a symptom of failing eye sight and you should get tested.

I have a friend's friend who became myopic due to extended console play in the dark with a high brightness screen.

noone in his family tree was myopic, it was completely self-inflicted.

the friend who told me about that guy had himself had to go on leave from work because he literally became blind for awhile.

I am pretty sure that's a fantasy story or something. Quitch is totally right, it's crazy hard to actually damage your eyes with this kind of thing.

Yeah that's a view I am seeing daily, since many years. My eyesight has not gotten worse since years and if I get tired I go and sleep... Actually the worst part of the day is when the sun is out and shines somewhat indirect on the screens. THAT actually is strain on my eyes.

In reality the room looks quite a bit brighter though, it's astonishing to see how much better the human eyes are compared to a camera lens

I dunno, cola, starring at scantily clad anime girls may lead to activities which cause you to go blind ;)
