Might be something for the future, but a method of starting in orbit (say around a Gas Giant) would be cool I would reccomend a transformable space fighter that can switch to a weak bot and land to operate on a planet would be good. This "transformer" would either be weak in orbit, or incapable of attacking in orbit or air so that it didn't reduce other units roals. The key to this would that it would be capable of being produced only in orbit. The Egg would also need to introduced as a unit that allowed the commander to operate in orbit (ie make stuff) I think starting around a Gas giant would lead to some different strategies that might be interesting.
guys let damn ideas breathe. We don't have different races but this could introduce a possibility of an interesting offset novus VS Hierachy style (from Universe at war).
With the current orbital balance, HELL TO THE NO! But hell, if you are going to make orbital as balanced as any T1 start, then I....ehh no, im still a supporter of keeping the game fairly rooted on solid ground. Still want a different dynamic for orbital stuff to prevent it still being air 2.0 something to truly make it unique without introducing a mechanic like having them auto-orbit and making them a pain in the *** to use.
