More of you need to get on the PTE.

Just because you have Steam doesn't mean you can't get on the PTE and enjoy this sick new build with us.

I made this because I noticed too many people ask how to get on the PTE on different threads but never get the right answer.

e.g "Can I access the PTE if I have steam?" - "No".

You can! So get on!


Also I plan to host lobbies all night under my name here or ChristAlmighty.


EDIT: You CAN access the PTE from Steam without the Uber Launcher. Right click PA > Properties > Beta> Select -pte from the dropdown menu. Go!

The PTE version needs to go on Steam. I waited for an hour on the PTE with my friends just now, and in the end we gave up and played with the AI. There's nobody there. If Uber wants people to play this thing, put it on Steam where the players are.

THEY need to install the launcher and login with their forum information. Let it install, and take the copy and rename it and keep both copies of the game in the steam folder.

Takes a little bit of effort, but it is more than possible for steam players to play right now.

For Linux, assuming it works this build, the Go launcher works iirc.

You can do it on Steam- possibly, check the betas for PA, the devs occasionally put PTE versions in the Steam game betas.

I don't understand what you guys are talking about. My problem is that Steam has the old version, and there's no people in the PTE version. So they should push the PTE on Steam as the DEFAULT version, so that enough people can play it without having to wait half a day to get a game going.

You don't even need to do any folder copying, that's just for convenience/download time. You don't even need to have the launcher install into the Steam folder if you don't want. (for whatever reason)


So if you're incredibly lazy, don't be deterred. Download the launch and select "PTE" and shoot some LAZORS.

If they wanted it to be the default version then it wouldn't be called the test server now would it?
They don't want to push it to live because it's probably still got lots of bugs/issues. If steam don't provide the functionality to easily switch between builds then that's not uber's fault.

Icy this build will be released to the main version in a few days. For now, it's not entirely stable which is why it's in the PTE.

Yes, I know. Steam has it's own PTE! Right click PA in your Steam library, then click properties, then go to the "Betas" tab, click the button below "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" and select PTE from the drop down menu.

It wasn't available last time I checked.

I went on PTE, heck I even joined up and was the last person needed for a game.

As it was my first multiplayer game I was naturally the first one to die, but I helped.

It would be helpful of you to post a screenshot of this glitch (if it is a glitch).

Catalysts are only available for Advanced Fabricators and can only be built on metal planets.

Were you playing on a system with a metal planet?

I have finally found the PTE options and I am going to try this out now.

If the launcher, at the top right click the arrow with the drop down menu, and choose the Build: PTE

If Steam, right click the game in library, then go to properties, the at the top there is a tab that says betas, you can opt into the pte beta.

If I remember correctly, PTE stands for public test environment. It's basically where
Uber let's us try out new changes, like units or balance changes and whatnot, before they release it to the general community. Sort of like an early backer perk.

No worries, it was just me being an idiot: I booted the client through the mod manager which reverted to live server instead of test.

Okay, i have tried both the steam and uber launcher PTE now and when i launch the game i can see my friends list, hear the menu sounds but the screen is black. Anyone know what could be causing this? I've tried reinstalling the game that hasn't fixed it. When i opt out of PTE and launch the default version it works fine???
