Good day all, I had some friends over recently and one of their younger siblings decided it would be cool to uninstall all of my games off of Steam. Today (8/28/2014, 5:30-ish PM) I wanted to play some PA so I re-downloaded it from Steam and since I hadn't played it in a while I was messing with some of the newer features. I decided to start a single player game but I was surprised when the game crashed after choosing where on the planet to deploy my commander. I was able to replicate this bug 4 times (before giving up on trying to get a single player campaign going) so I then turned my attention to the multiplayer where I was going to create a private game versus some computers but again as soon as I chose where to deploy the game crashed (I was also able to replicate this multiple times). Has anyone else encountered this or does anyone know what might be causing this? I had the settings set to the average default (my pc's processor isn't the best but it has run the game with default settings in the past without any issues) and I also tried with the visual settings set to the lowest default (to see if maybe my processor was just crapping itself) but it occurred then too. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! *Edit - DxDiag no attached Also I'm currently playing on a stable build
Hello, Please post your DxDiag so that I can diagnose the problem. Are you playing on stable or PTE (Public Test Environment)? EDIT: This should be moved to the Support Forum.
Thanks you guys! How would one move this to the support forums? I'm a little new when it comes to using forums in general.
@coal9797: I found some things in your Dxdiag: Code: Memory: 6144MB RAM Available OS Memory: 5880MB RAM You will want to upgrade to at least 8GB of RAM or more. PA is a RAM hog and it may run out of memory with only 6GB available. Code: Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4200 Dedicated Memory: 252 MB Driver Version: 8.862.3.0 Driver Date/Size: 6/30/2011 03:46:02, 811008 bytes AMD no longer supports the Radeon HD 4000 series, so you will need to upgrade to a newer video card (HD 7000 series, R9200, etc.) in order to get newer drivers.
Thanks everyone! Guess I'm off to the local computer hardware store! (I was looking into upgrading anyways)
You could also look up SXX post to decrease ram usage by the UI via limiting how many coherent views open up. That would probably get you playing instantly.
Actually current hardware can run game, but very slow, but your drivers are old. You need to download and install latest legacy drivers from AMD website: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows 7 - 64 Obviously it's will work really slow on this onboard (integrated into motherboard) graphics card. Also if you using DDR2 memory there is completely no reason to upgrade it, better save money to new PC. Only thing that worth to buy it's some proper graphics card.
