Single use, high cost, can be disabled by a planet smash sounds perfect in my opinion.

This is completely off topic however, but OP, there is no such thing as a "lazer". It's one of my biggest pet peeves along with "expressos" , Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification ( by the ) Stimulated Emission (of) Radiation. There ain't any Z's anywhere in that.

Completely pedantic nitpicking aside, yeah, single use shizznizz.

Yes it is confirmed :) And when asteroids are implemented and IF they create craters its a great counter to the Mega Uber Laser of Death and Destruction

You forgot one thing. there are two firing craters on metal planets. to disable it completely, you would have to smash it twice.:)

nah you can only build 5 catalysts at 1 pole which is indicated by 5 blue spots. The other pole does'nt act as an laser.

Haven't played to test yet but since catalysts cost as much as Halley, but always need several to be able to fire, it should be balanced fine in systems with smaller planets that can be flung with 3 or less halleys. The smash is single use, and sacrifices a planet to do it, but if you build a system where halleys cost is low, then the advantage of being able to smash way earlier than laser should balance out, you also have the decision to make between smashing the metal planet to prevent the laser being built, or trying to go for the win right away with it.

I've seen a lot of people write it as 'lazer' that's why I put it in quotations. I recognize it's actually spelled laser and cringed when I wrote it with the z.

    single use?

but then if you have only one metal planet in a system with like 12 non-haily-able planets only one of those will get to go.

I say yes but as an option.

Because it's would have strategic value to have a match set up this way.
But also to have the match set up where everybody has to fight over the metal planet to get their pet "planet-to-be-destroyed" destroyed.

I think you can only delete your posts once you have 1000 posts for...
    some... reason?

    Oh.
Same thing happens to me though, sometimes I'll see the option other times I won't. It's weird.

Sometimes there'll be an option on the bottom of a post you made that says "delete".
Click it and it'll be deleted.

metal planets are an "I win" button, which I'm actually ok with.

If someone can get 5 catalysts, they deserve the win, since they are so easy to detect.

and I'm against 1 shot only, that's just boring

While that's a fair point, there should at least be a cooldown.
You shouldn't be able to get 5 catalysts and then annihilate an entire star system within the span of a minute. THAT'S boring.

ya, I agree on that. plus a significant energy drain during the cooldown as well

It charges up to fast. the planet it hits gets destroyed to fast.

Its both balance and the fast it doesnt look cool, when it happens so fast.

Atm you can kill every other planet in a game in 30 sec doesnt matter how many planets there are.

Would it be to much to ask that to use the laser it would require you to have 5 million energy in storage and it would drain every single drop of your energy or something.

Or yeah maybe just a a cooldown, that it overloads it needs to cooldown, or maybe it only works once. So choose target wisely.

It needs to come with an energy cost too, i.e. you need to use storage to build up your energy reserve before firing.

Does the commanders overcharge cost energy? And if it does then they should remove the call down on the overcharge and allow you to fire it as many times in a row as you like as long as you have the energy.
