i'm so tired of this transparency argument. two days ago i revealed our pr plan for PAX / releasing the build and i had to close the thread because so many people either: (a) asking for transparency, (b) flaming the game and (c) flaming other people. like, it was a thread about our plans and the details i was releasing that day. there was nothing left on the table but i got the transparency thing again.

but anyway, it's a vocal minority thing. and i get it. for all of you that keep rocking, thanks for rocking. the kind words help a ton.

maybe you should consider having less conversations with your wall and less popping into these threads just to throw more fuel on them?

edit: give me something i can work with outside of 24/7 snark, you know? its exhausting.

I too have been noticing this. How on Earth do you deal with it all?
It makes me sad that >90% of the community here is paying the price (in reduced communication, streams etc.) because of a few incessantly criticising voices. Your transparency comment above is proof of that. Damned if you do....

Something I learned the value of recently: liberal use of the block button. Does wonders for the mood of the forums and subreddit when applied to the right people. Give it a try folks! Your blood pressure will thank you. Plenty of positivity and constructive feedback to be found.

Sorry if this is snarky, but isn't it your job to deal with snark?

Read: I had to close a discussion where people were asking me to discuss things about the game they invested in.
Is it really that unbelievable that people who invested in your game would want some clarity on what's going on? I mean, great sure. You told us when you're going to be clarifying things. Awesome. Truly. But how long had we been asking for it. How long had Uber been silent?

Really, Brad. You're honestly a lovable guy, but you signed up for this job. You can cry me a river when people get upset at the lack of information from a developer who received a 2 mil investment.

    I know it's exhausting @BradNicholson,

Keep on keeping on dude. I think most people would agree you guys are doing a great job. I for one apologise for being a part of the silent majority and not voicing positive feedback more frequently.

    Cheers,

I seem to be the guy who gets threads locked around here, but here is a great reddit thread on this issue. By the way, people wanting to withhold release seem like a vocal MAJORITY on reddit, where threads aren't locked when they get to honest...

    http://www.reddit.com/r/planetaryan..._game_is_one_build_from_going_gold_seriously/

To those of you saying "reserve judgment until 1.0".. That is the complete opposite of what should be done. 1.0 should be tested before it's release, that's the whole point of the 0.x nomenclature. Anything wrong with 1.0 STICKS FOREVER in the reviews and consciousness of the gaming community. I still can't even play as a Linux user... I can't even test the current game... No Linux user can, how do we know there aren't MORE Linux bugs we haven't even seen?!

Finally, as a direct response to the thread title, I can't play a game a paid to support early, and it's less than 1 week prior to 1.0... If this was alpha, it would be acceptable. Hence my " negativity ".

You guys are great @BradNicholson !!!!!!!!!!!! don't worry about wieners and doomsayers. They obviously have personal problems to deal with. After all, this is just a videogame...

We are testing it before release... :p That was confirmed, we even get it before it's debut at PAX.

Edit: And I just played as a linux user yesterday :S

Linux user? OK please tell me how you fixed the UI crash that prevents me and tons of others from playing. Also, testing before an announced release date is pretty pointless... Nothing we test will change the 1.0 product.

what i mean by that is that there is nothing i can do with seemingly random complaints. you want transparency. ok. about what? how can i help you? Edit: just going into threads and being like RAWR TRANSPARENCY is, honestly, silly.

Yea, I'm a Linux user as well, there are a fair amount of us on these forums. Its a very exciting time for Linux right now, lots of new games are becoming available.

Edit: Brad, I understand some of the problems affecting Linux users are pretty widespread. An acknowledgement that the appropriate parties have been informed of the issue and are working to resolve it would be nice, but not strictly necessary. I have been very happy with the product Uber puts out, and have a great admiration for your collective skill. Still, interface breaking bugs cause a lot of pain on our end. The trick, I think, is making sure communication over these issues is swift and clear. "No promises on things we cannot personally control, but we are looking into it." is acceptable. A clear admission on important things that cannot be fixed within the next update should also be part of the release announcement. I don't mind being told "No, thats not going to happen soon", its far preferable to silence.

I guess I got lucky?... It was my first attempt at PA on Linux, so I can't really help much. I'm using Zorin OS, based of Gnome and Ubuntu.. I had an error where my mouse was invisible, but apperently there's a little mod to fix that so I'll go fetch it. :p

ok so you have an HONEST bitch session on reddit.. please tell us in the end what good came of it? besides giving google search yet another negative search string for PA, so in the end all you did was hurt PA.

They do that though: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/pa-is-really-really-bad-on-linux-right-now.63117/ (there's two resonses by devs in that thread, one of which was only a few minutes after the OP)

It seems that many people aren't happy with that level though, and want detailed, precise answers (even when that's not possible), as well as the answers being the ones they want.

Seriously?!?! You think taking a job as Community Manager means they have to allow and take the snark? and here you are again using that "I'm entitled because we backed your kickstarter" argument.. OMG my head hurts..

I tried for a long time to get PA to work in linux. Unfortunately my linux box has an AMD card in it - I suspect that's the basic problem. In the end I built a new Win8 machine. Problem solved.

I honestly can't blame developers for half-heartedly supporting linux builds. It's such a pain in the *** and it's not like there is a huge financial incentive. I hope that changes but linux gaming just isn't there yet. Example - I bought Metro: Last Light pretty much because they claimed it would run on linux ... nope! Can't even make it get to the title. Games for linux in 2014 is like games for DOS in 1992 (except we've got Google). You're on your own. No support. Sorry about the hours of fruitless trouble shooting. Good luck.

I guess I'll try again when I'm up for a good locked out system crash and see what happens.

Well if you want transparentcy & honesty the only reason i can think of for launching this game is money, always has always will be. There forced to launch and this way they want to create new revenue and keep the company rolling.
And no stuff we are going to say is going to chance that, it's either this and try to survive OR die and this game will never see the light of day, basta end of story..... move on people.

Hmm, I haven't seen that thread before, a stickied link in the general forums should be posted, as this issue is of extremely high priority. The link should lead to Garat's post really, it would have saved a lot of people a bunch of heartache.

Edit: Metro Last Light works fine on Linux with my NVIDIA card.
