I forgot all y'all are actually American. And not the Americans I mostly know who also think guns are fukkin' stupid.
Have fun while the rest of the developed world pities your backward-*** society that thinks you NEED guns to function, free affordable healthcare is a socialist plot, and has lovely way of telling minorities of all kinds to go f*ck themselves because conservative family values.

    (Yeah I'm moody)

The AR-15 is semi-automatic - that means you have to pull the trigger for a bullet to come out. It's certainly not automatic. Just because some dumb liberal said so, doesn't mean its true.

It's not an outright ban on automatic weaponry. You just can't manufacture any more, so you can only transfer pre-ban automatics around. Basically fun for rich people. Full auto registered receivers go for a pretty penny.

Artillery and other explosives are regulated by the NFA, too. Basically more things you can own if you throw money at it. Loads of taxing involved.

You can technically own tanks, too. Not sure how that works. See the guys with tank collections online.

I'm not American and I support firearm ownership. If you're going to be snide, you should probably not comment.

Yes but why? The defense argument doesn't support the current laws, which allow above and beyond what is needed for defense. The constitutional argument doesn't hold up because guns are rarely acquired with the militia intent in mind.

Saying "we should have them just because", which is what that sentence amounts to, is not a good enough argument when talking about something so dangerous. Again, over 10,000 deaths a year.

Um. That's what I was saying - the AR can't go automatic, which may make it more dangerous than one that can if the operator is trying to hurt people, but is inexperienced (since they won't waste as much ammo).

If people are gonna defend their small **** compensator and continue massacring more of their own innocents than any other western nation then I will comment.

Wow you're just so mature aren't you. I don't even own a gun, get your facts straight.

Please don't go down this road or this thread will be locked. Realistically this thread won't change the views of anybody involved anyway...

Because this is a stupid debate full of people going "Hurr durr I need self defence."
Yeah, if America outright banned guns overnight it would be bad, but only because gun culture is so large and ingrained that people would refuse to give them up and criminals already HAVE them. But every other developed nation (bar small unique scenarios) get along COMPLETELY FINE, hell, a lot BETTER without an armed population.
Every time someone brings up the defence argument, I remember "oh... that must be why the US has FAR more violent crime than anywhere else".
    CLEARLY they work.

May I also add that the U.S state with the lowest amount of gun crime also has the least gun regulation.

Trying to regulate firearms on perceived deadliness is a fool's errand since they're all deadly. See California's firearms with butchered attachments that actually decrease safety. Just stop looking for things to ban and let people own things. Life would be much easier.

Yep. Let's ban all the drugs too and see where that leads us.

Vermont has the lowest gun crime. Btw, the murders that were committed weren't even by "high powered assault weapons" but by handguns. This is partly due to a small population but if you split it up per 100,000 it's still the least violent.

Notice the stats for New York despite its prohibitive firearm laws.
