Hey guys I posted last month under username bawler I believe, this will be the permanent account, I picked up PA last night as promised, huge old school TA fan from way back. I'd just like to share my first impressions from a quick 50 minute session. The controls, superb. Multitasking units, queuing vehicle builds, then queuing tasks for vehicles before the factory is complete is a stroke of genius! Radar satellites! You f'n guys!! Game is smooth on uber, noticed some "lag" with air vehicles, (might be drivers) Ground unit icons cut through "space?" layer units, which I'm sure you get used too but originally I was distracted. And finally, the scale I was a little disappointed with. I'm taking into consideration the multi layers you can play on and the promise of interplanetary battles, but the two maps I played had hardly enough water to build a ship factory on let alone get any use out of water units tactically. I could however have not been thoroughly paying attention because of the huge smile on my face, or because I'm used to SC scale. All in all, amazing job guys, thank you for all the kick starter backers, I saw this project when it was new, but unfortunately did not contribute (thoughts of Ta3d) Lastly, I know this is planetary annihilation, but I am happy you guys used the TA foundation for your inspiration, you guys used the information from what worked and what didn't, your doing what most devs in this day and age are to stupid to figure out, your improving gaming, instead of churning turds for profit. Thanks for that.
well you summed it up perfectly. Good on you. If you have good hardware you can try making yourself bigger maps.
Yep, it's actually more fun with one big planet than multiple smaller ones in my opinion.. so yeah, go to the system editor, size 1200, have a blast.
Yep, everyone wishes naval had more of an impact on the game, right now it really doesn't matter at all. Sorry Bro. Thanks
naval is kinda broken right now but you can use the system editor to make water maps. And you can have up to 16 planets in a game I believe. If you can process fighting across that many planets, you probably aren't human. EDIT: If you really like naval, get the navalredux mod (get PAMM) https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-pa-mod-manager-cross-platform.59992/
I still am hoping for: -Better naval, another pass at it -Stronger map generation "biome scaling". I wouldn't mind if it were a percent of a planet's surface area. That way, 0 or 1 would be really small biomes that on a small planet still divides the biomes if plausible into many many segments, and 100 would ensure 1 or 2 biomes covering the whole planet each in size. This way, 1200 planets could have 2 large oceans, instead of 8 or 10 blobby little lakes.
And if you'd prefer a different flavour for balance (that some consider "better") you should try out either Statera or RCBM. https://forums.uberent.com/threads/wip-server-mod-statera-balance-mod.60342/ https://forums.uberent.com/threads/wip-the-realm-community-balance-mod.58942/ If you have PAMM you can get Statera on there for ease of access, RCBM isn't up yet but they definitely plan on putting it up once it's up to their standard as to being complete!
Awesome, I'll try those mods once I've played out the available single player. Long weekend coming up. Any radar jamming units in game? City maps?? Plans?
Jamming units are not in the game, they may, and the closest thing we have to cities are metal planets I suppose... Someone make make a mod for a city biome in the future but Uber hasn't really said much.
