Do you think you have what it takes to be The Grand Cheddar? Test your sharpness in a wide variety of situations. Think on your feet. Outsmell your opponents, and prove your worth as a Cheddar Champion well pasteurised in every aroma of gameplay. Tournament is open to all!

    Date: 07/09/2014 15:00 UTC
    Signup: http://exodusesports.com/tournament/grand-cheddar-cup/signup/
    Brackets: http://exodusesports.com/tournament/grand-cheddar-cup/brackets/
Prize: A cup of cheddar and $50
Rules: Be on #patournaments irc 30 minutes before tournament start. http://esper.net/publicirc.php. Single elimination, b03 final. Remember to turn pastats on!
Map Pool: You can now find all maps under 'Cheddar cup' on System Sharing mod. The number on the end denotes either the planet radius or the smash timer. Dice will be rolled each round and the corresponding map will be played unless it has already been rolled. Each player has one veto in which case the dice are rolled again for that specific match only
    1. Spawn wars 550r
Each player has two spawn locations with 4 metal in each. This map will be played with an extra AI with 0 economic modifier to bring the total metal clusters available to 6 (24 metal spots). How efficient are you at playing low economy games? Will you be able to slay the AI commander and reclaim him for metal?
    2. Metal Wars 600r
One moon with maximum amount of metal possible. How good is your macro game? Will you out nuke your opponent or spam him to death?
    3. Lava Boxing 200r
Classic Commander boxing in a fiery arena of death. Hopefully lava pathing is fixed by next week.
    4. Moon Kissing 10m
2 moons, star crossed to be in loving embrace at 10 minutes. Can you survive the explosion of love longer than your opponent?
    5. Game of Annihilation 10m
The initial spawning planet Ice is smashed by the orbiting planet Fire at 10 minutes - the only safe refuge being the planet Song. All men must die, but does this also apply to angry space robots?
    6. Water World 650r
Water. Watever Everywhere! Prove yourself the king of the boats.
    7. Systeem X 500r
Big thanks to [RLM]Mot9001 the Magician for creating this map which will now replace tanis. ~60 metal spots, 4 very balanced spawns, and a metal layout that creates an incredibly dynamic playing map. Some believe you can only call yourself a true PA grandmaster if you are also well versed in the art of the moon.
    8. Taxman 2v2 Round 5
Two islands, many lava. How good is your control of the skies? Mex has been rebalanced to be equal for both islands (~35 each). Terrain is unchanged from the original
    9. HoneyPot
Multi planet spawn on two identical lava planets orbiting a larger ice planet that has alot of metal. This map will test your skill at orbital and multi planet gameplay
    10. 10. Star Battles: A New Hope
4 planets + 1 gas giant + 1 deathstar. Players choose to spawn on either Tatooine or Hoth, each having ~25 metal spots. There are two other planets you can expand to, Mustafar and Alderaan, which have ~60 metal spots on each.

All 4 planets have a low 2 halley requirement, although be careful about what you choose to smash. It might end up putting you behind in metal income!

One gas giant for players to fight for metal advantage. One deathstar with no metal. You may be able to rush first onto the deathstar, but you might not have enough economy at home to defend it as a result.
Balance feedback is welcome on all maps and will be taken into account.

    *Important note
System sharing mod is not entirely working this build. It works in the system editor, but not in the ingame lobby.

If you want to check out any of the maps, first open it in the system editor and save a copy locally. Then you should be able to create games with the maps

The prize pool would be so much larger if you hadn't blown so much on graphic design.

    @mered4
You mean 7th? If casters are unavailable this week, then next week sounds better anyway

Ok, date has been changed to the 7th of september!

Imaginary :p. Although depends if you want to be shipped cheese in an envelope all the way from Australia (really?)... Cheese would be just the pre-shredded stuff.

Yes. Also, maybe it could be an excellent way to show off all the diff ways pa can be played. I'll talk to Brian.

Edit: in light of the launch patch, that is

For just the naval one, consider using NavalRedux?

If you are seriously interested, take it, try it out, make any changes you want if you can, suggest them to me to put them through, it would at least be interesting.

Many large ships teleporting sometimes clogs. If not fixed in vanilla by then, you can opt that out of it. You can make the torpedo boat share icons with scout boat and combat fabber ship share icons with the fabber ship to avoid needing a clientside mod. Can test the balance values with a few matches of serious naval.

Strictly no balance mods will be used - this is a vanilla tournament. If there are problems in 1.0 they will be more quickly uncovered and brought to the attention of the devs.

I wouldn't say naval is buggy. But I would say I have seen naval matches, and it is like a struggle against the game and not your enemy, and whoever does better struggling against the game beats their opponent.

It's rough fighting air and naval. And it is a struggle, not having naval leaves you to "build more air than enemy" while the game ultimately ends up being a "who can oppress air most". All high level tournaments I watched were decided by an advanced air factory snipe, crippling one persons peregrine access. Now, it would be the same, snipe a good amount of enemy air factories, and simply dwindle them down in access to AA until you can go in unopposed.

Wait, can dox AA underwater? If so, a single patch of land would be valuable.

Ok so I really don't want to turn this thread into a balance thread so i'll try respond as briefly as possible. If you have criticism or feedback about imbalances specifically due to the maps, those are welcome as we can then ensure fair gameplay.

Firstly, if you checked out the map on system sharing, you would see that there is no land on which to build dox or slammers.

Secondly, there are no peregrines. This is not RCBM or whatever you may be used to playing :p

Thirdly, you cannot divorce naval combat from air control. Naval is specifically different from land because it requires strategy in two spheres.

Lastly, I was not talking just about bugs. If there are huge balance problems as you believe there to be, then it is best to play and show uber directly. We all know written balance feedback tends not to be considered seriously by them.

There were peregrines in vanilla. They were removed in vanilla I believe, but the last tournament involving heavy naval had them, and they were even the "shotgun" variety.

But I do salute you demonstrating naval use, the feedback is necesary.

Hell, if we are lucky, by the 7th naval patch will add a whole lot. They are pushing gas giants if all goes well. They haven't commented about naval but suggested earlier that the next build they release would have a naval pass, and this is the next build, so while not directly said it is quite possible.

Speaking of, will your tournament push new stuff if new stuff comes to the table by then?

Absolutely! The goal of the tournament was to include as many different types of gameplay as PA can offer.
