I just tested to open a multiplayer juggernaut game and played it with people, and i have got some cool results to share from it: Setup- 1 player is Juggernaut with 5x Eco, 4 players will be contesting the Juggernaut, at normal Eco. Map will be one planet with a medium amount of metal. This is to prevent juggernaut to spend all eco moving to moon to lock it down, or any other planet. No share army. Gameplay- Contesters will have to co-operate to the best and use their advantage of 4-people micro against one person micro. The contesters will not have as much total echo as juggernaut, so juggernaut will try to outnumber the contesters and try to rush next tier. Contesters will have to co-operate to raid and flank the juggernaut, keeping him/her from expanding. Juggernaut will try to snipe one player com at a time, gradually getting rid of contesters. It could also possibly be done by having share army, to keep factories built away from com and make the contesters keep their players to micro. This is very hard if people does not teamplay, or does not help each other out. Lots of communication recommended. It was pretty fun, and probably as a juggernaut aswell. Discuss about balancing and other options to this ''Gamemode'' as you want, .
The idea sounds interesting and its a variation of similar game modes used across various RTS titles of the past . I'd work on the eco modifiers. A 5x mod for the juggernaut is too much; without shared armies, the opponents will ultimately create quite some redundancy in building up their infrastructure while their sole opponent can focus on whatever he chooses. x4 or perhaps even x3 should be tested, but I wouldn't be surprised if that yielded fairer matches. Juggernaut games should probably only take place in single planet systems; it's simply too easy to flee off-world and build up some kind of inpenetrable fortress (or smash one's puny x1 opponents with moons).
Yeah one planet is enough, and i'll say 4x Eco for Juggernaut, 3x is too little. I hope this will bring up a new teamplay-aspect of the game, forcing players to communicate and to help each other out.
Even 2x could be too much already. Remember that the Juggernaut is also going to reach T2 much faster - with the result of having access to T2 mexes much earlier. And eco bonus also multiplies the mass from T2 mexes, so....
Well from the game i played the biggest lack was teamplay. The eco was only a little too high, and 2x eco would probably be too little against 4 players.
most TA matches I ever watched or balanced casual play I've setup against randoms in PA, are based on this. 2 goods against either more randomsd or randoms with huge eco. This game has entertaining matches when you know what to play with. For the uncreative, I wish we could have a drop menu in the lobby to quickload a cool game mode.
Yeah I played on that game, detail was the juggernaut was Kissel (he has insane micro, LOL). Problem is this is not a game mode for randoms, I protected the other players but they didn't protect anyone else so we ended up loosing (cause he picked them one by one), i still had a blast tough! The 1v1 one crowd can have fun honing their micro, the team players can have a blast trying to coordinate! I think 4x is the sweet spot for 4 players, as long as the planet has a lot of metal. It is very fun, i recommend it!
