    You are half right. Ruins are actually included in the biome json.
    Code:
    {"layer":3,"note":"(Landmark - occurs only once on a planet)","brush_spec":"/pa/terrain/desert/brushes/desert_ruins_01.json","op":"BO_Add","proj":"BP_Bend","noise_range":[0.8,0.9],"biome_distance_range":[80,null],"threshold":0,"weight_hard":true,"weight":2,"bias":1,"scale":[1,1,1],"planet_size_range":[600,700],"elevation_range":[0.0,0.1],"max_instances":1}
    However the temple isn't referenced at all.

    Agreed. A good wiki isn't just stats. It should inform, and even provide a lot of information for new players, not just old hands at the game.

    Exterm, I hadn't seen that extension for mediawiki. That's a nice package to extend the standard software.

    Actually even the official Wikipedia has that extension installed, they are using it e.g. for tracking population stats for cities and alike. Even with the query feature in that specific case.

    Stumbled across it myself because I was confronted with the same problem of creating a Wiki for a game of my own a while ago.

    The wiki seems more like an advertising page then anything else.
    Wikia is a much better choice I end up there trough google every time I need to find something in a rpg.
    I haven't even heard of IGN wiki ...

    Brian.

    Why are you more concerned with your own fame rather than with the spreading of accurate and comprehensive information?
    It is easy for me to take this perspective since I hate intellectual property.

    IGN is a commercial service. They are literally making money from the content users "provide".

    That's where intellectual property makes perfect sense. So it's fine (and has to be respected) if Brian doesn't want his content to be used in an commercial context on a 3rd party platform.

    Seriously?

    There is nothing wrong with me not wanting people to steal my hard work.

    For the same reasons I would be upset if someone re-uploaded my YouTube videos. Or if someone started offering free downloads of PA. Or selling PA.

    I am very invested in spreading accurate information and publicizing Planetary Annihilation. It's why I built an ad-free fan site. It's why I put who knows how many hundreds of hours into the Planetary Annihilation community.

    @exterminans makes a very good point. IGN is a for profit website. Their wiki is slathered in ads. It is perfectly legitimate that I don't want someone to help IGN make money by stealing content I wrote.

    It is perfectly reasonable for him to be annoyed by this. I made a lot of mods a while back and put a lot of time into it. Part of why I stopped is I started to find my mods listed on a popular site without any credit and my descriptions just copied and pasted word for word. Even when you're not doing things for money or even fame, it can be very discouraging to see someone else take it and claim it as their own. I imagine Brian will become less likely to keep writing good wiki pages if people keep this up, so whoever copied his page needs to stop.

    If we can keep up this tone throughout the Wiki I will be very satisfied. I now have a better understanding on how planets work in PA.

    grass.json, last brush.

    Code:
          "brush_spec": "/pa/terrain/jungle/brushes/jungle_temple.json",

    Not.... exactly. Many pages left Wikia because of the forced skin change. http://awa.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Moved_wikis
    It didn't help that Wikia's admins refused to allow pages to leave by refusing users the ability to close the wiki. Touhouwiki tried to leave Wikia and closed their page. This was refused and reversed by admins, even going so far as to ban the users trying to close the page. The same users who came to, and created the Touhou Wikia page. The original creator of Wikia stated that if the users want to leave Wikia and take their pages elsewhere, they were free to do so. A lot of good that did. So I have a severe lack of respect for any of the Wikia admins, or Wikia as a website in particular.

    Jim Wales, founder of wikia:
    "The free license part of Wikia limits our control. If the community gets mad at us, they can just leave and take the content with them. That alone keeps the relationship honest."
    http://money.cnn.com/magazines/business2/business2_archive/2007/03/01/8401010/index.htm
    That is amazing, and I support more of that. Everywhere.

    Edit'd to add source. Again (twice) for broken quote.

    Why so furious about using 3rd party, ad infested Wiki with very little control over the feature set of that wiki?

    I get that you are trying to catch some new users, and that IGN probably made some promises, yet it's an inferior choice from a technical point of view - even when compared to the wikis which are already up and running.

    There is only so much which can be done in the IGN wiki, add a few texts and images to biome types, a tutorial or two, but it already starts getting messy when trying to add units.

    As far as I can see this wiki hasn't even template support, leave alone queryable semantics. Every single table in that wiki has to be created by hand and reflecting updates becomes a lot of hard (and unnecessary) handwork as soon as even a single stat based comparison is added anywhere.

    Not to mention that you are making yourself dependent upon IGN, who knows how long they will continue to exist or to provide that service.

    i understand that you think it's inferior, my man. it's a bummer you're having trouble.

    also, there's nothing that's making us dependent on IGN. you're reading too much into it.

    Ah, only searched for it in the jungle biome. And I think I see why it is never used.

    tropical.json, elevation range for grass biome:
    Code:
    "elevation": [0.2,0.5,0.5],
    grass.json, conditions for temple brush:
    Code:
    "elevation_range": [0.0,0.2],
    "biome_distance_range": [160,null],
    That means it can only be in the center of a large grass biome, and that's only if the elevation happens to be the lowest possible elevation by chance.

    Register button seems to be broken for me on the wiki. Anyone mind sending me a link for it? My internet isn't the best most of the time so I have difficulties on a couple sites- and I don't want to wait until 11pm to add the a biome to the biome list. :p

    TBH, I hate IGN, they are dicks on a middle ground level and nothing to do particularly with this, just them in general. I will continue to use Brain's wiki. Besides, Brian does have a more veteran forum and a little applicable info mixed with the factual as well.

    But, IGN is for the general mass, and that much I can understand. I mean, dis a big game, gamefaqs has such a dedicated userbase to using JUST gamefaqs, that they will have a thread and guides for this game soon. IGN usually has somebody pull references for links, and the general masses usually land there first, so that is usually how IGN works.

    I can show you 3 FAQ/Walkthroughs from GameFAQs that specifically say in them that "This guide is only to be hosted on GameFAQs unless specifically asked, and if you find this guide anywhere else please report it to me" as well as an ending note that "It is known that this guide is plagarized by IGN and they will not cooperate so I wanted to shame them in conclusion to this guide". For instance, the code generator for items from the maku tree in Zelda Oracles, that was coded with a hidden signature crediting the creator and IGN posted it and claimed otherwise with the signature still in. That is usually my problem with IGN, not so much anything to do with this game.

    EDIT: And btw, I was wrong, THAT was CheatCodeCentral that plagarized that particular game (Zelda: Oracles). Do they even exist anymore? Anyway, IGN is a bad offender usually.
