I learned, don't do double elimination.. Also that AA is UP and that we need to fix that error where the T1 gunships machine guns also fired at air. Lastly I learned- if people don't show up... Remove them from the brackets, don't wait, at all.
Yeah generally you get 20-40% no-shows for an open tourney. You just have to have larger initial brackets than you want or keep reserves. I personally don't really think reserves are really fair to those players that show up not knowing if they get to play though.
The initial brackets had ~12 - 14 players, we ended up with eight. Personally though, I'm almost happy we had fewer players, double elimination takes much too long.
I learnt that tournaments are fun. I had a blast and finished second (if I understand how double elimination works). I'd agree with not doing double elimination next time, the tournament finished nearly 4hrs after it should have started. Also yes we shouldn't wait so long for those who didn't show up. Delaying by 50 mins wasn't fair on those who showed up early. In regards to the mod the T1 gunship was far too effective against air but I believe the issue with that was found (it could use its missiles and Gatling guns against air).
40% then. And open tourneys for PA have been thus so far. I am NEVER available on a saturday so I don't bother fooling myself or anyone. T1 gunship wasn't supposed to shoot at air btw? I haven't touched it since implementation. Oh wait, missiles were supposed to be AA right, and guns ground? And missiles were supposed to be hummingbird damage and peregrine fire speed right? Idk how peregrine strikes don't clear t1 gunships, but I could see how they could be too good AA if their guns fired air. They are supposed to be air infernos except even cruddier at damage. So basically, high health damage spongy air units. The peregrine, they still have 4 1-hit kill missiles with a long recharge time ammo system, don't they?
Basically yes, the guns fired at air as well. Not sure how that slipped past us all. Basically it meant that if a gunship is facing the enemy it completely wrecked then, when flanked it was able to be destroyed. The missile could also fire at the ground when it shouldn't have been so it did some extra damage as well.
Wierd problem with the segregation in damage to air and ground. The scale in health means, that which damages air does neglegible damage to land, and that which damages land will annihilate air mercilessly if allowed to hit. Problem with ants in alpha, dox now, the t1 gunship in the tourney, ect. Question Tourney Attendees! Did anyone play naval today? Just curious. State the round so maybe I can see the cast for it.
