It's been a while since i last played, but i noticed that units have "voices" now? While it's a robotic sound with lot's of bleeps and whistles (like a very advanced R2-D2 sound ) it does add to the game though! Are we going to see more of these sorts of add-ons? Because this makes it awesome. It's no longer totally silent, and i think units kept on making noises when constructing/walking aswell, like a constant chatter
I love it, great combination of cute yet mechanical. Homeworld also had battle chatter, made battles feel so very alive, yes to more robot voices !
Ah Homeworld 2... Recently reinstalled that gem no matter how old that one gets, it remains one of, if not THE best space-themed RTS's out there... BATTLECRUISER READY!!! prepare for epic damage
Homeworld Cataclysm was so much better than 1 or 2 yet very few people really knew about it. I so wished I could have taken the som-taw units into battle in 2 rather than the standard higaran stuff... The archangel drednaught was just superb to watch all 3 very good games mind...
I would just be happy if Marshal was the voice for the commanders in a more mechanical tone of voice.
I've tried installing Cataclysm (and HW1 ofcourse) but it didn't work back then, so i gave up... HW2 did work but i still love that game Too bad i don't know much about the units you are talking about
If you look up on web you can get cataclysm working on windows 7 (I have recently )... it's a great game, units are more interesting (e.g. fighters that combine to form a corvette)
If you're having trouble running Homeworld you will be happy to know 1 and 2 are getting remastered for modern Windows, not sure about Cataclysm though. Have a look here, there's not much info though http://www.homeworldremastered.com/
I first heard the bot sounds in the recent ZaphodX video where he had a few matches against Brad Nicholson. I thought there were children playing in the background at first that were being picked up over their headset mics.
Personally I don't like the unit voices for the builder bots. They are so high pitched sounds it just turns me off.
I just listened to the clip above so far, but initial impressions make me think these are too "Conversational", they feel like they have meaning as opposed to sounds the equipment they're composed of would make in normal operation. Mike
The publisher is Gearbox and the pre-order for the limited edition is already up on Amazon, so it's genuine. Pity Cataclysm isn't included, though. I'd really love it if that were remade also.
