    @KillerKiwiJuice, you're wasting his time, that's a bad lead.

    have you tried my idea?

    Actually your wrong on that one Tatsujb. I was unable to play at all on my laptop, until I updated the Integrated drivers *as well* as the discreet card.

    Edit: disabling the Intel HD graphics is probably a good idea, although you can do that through the device manager (no need to turn them off in the bios imo).

    I honestly really don't think that's at all linked with his current problem though.

    i dont think there should be an option to disable the igpu if his display is plugged into his 780.

    I know, at least, there is no option to disable mine.

    This is not how computers work. I can run the game via my AMD 7770 even if the display is connected to my GTX 780. Primary device isn't determined by the connector. (Sometimes it is, but sometimes it isn't.)

    So, that means the data from the 7770 goes through the PCIe slot, through the PC, and then back out the 780 to get displayed?

    That would be weird.

    Yea it is weird, but PCIe is VERY fast so there's no noticeable slowdowns.

    I'm thinking that it may be RAM at this point. Today I picked up and installed an Intel i7 4790k (Haswell Refresh/Devil's Canyon) processor, and while planets load CRAZY fast and the lag is much reduced, it still crashes when I try to go to the main menu. This never happened on my weaker gaming laptop, but it had 16gb RAM. I will try to get 8 more gb of RAM soon and post what happens.

    http://hcidesign.com/memtest/
    http://www.memtest.org/-download its about halfway down, get bootable .iso version

    Both of these are good memory testers. I have only used memtest86+, since it boots from the bios/bootmenu and doesn't require and OS, but I've read that HCI's memtest can find errors that the other one can't, though it runs in the OS. These should be a sufficient way to test your memory to make sure that it isn't faulty.

    8GB really should be enough to return to the main menu :p

    Also, it didn't happen on your laptop almost certainly because of the silly fact that it isn't this computer. Bugs are funny like that.

    I ran Memtest (Non-bootable) in multiple windows to test all of my available RAM. 0 errors were found.

    The reason I think 8gb isn't enough is because this game makes my idling 1.6 GB in-use soar to 8/8. Opening chrome while the game is running causes everything (Including the mouse) to move like it's a slideshow.

    >INB4 everyone screams at my specs.

    I have an Intel HD3000 integrated, run the game with it, AND I only have 4 gigs of RAM... game runs smoothly, loading unto the game is a haste however. I also need to close chrome but to be fair I always have millions of tabs. (I have a problem)

    2GB RAM idle at times due to chrome. Maybe even 3. ^^;

    I have 16GB and I usually run less than 8GB, what kind of systems do you run? E.g. radius and number of planets.

    I have done some testing and found that the game nearly always appropriates more RAM than it needs after a planet has been purged-- as in if you generate a planet, then go back to the main menu, the amount of RAM is up to 1.6GB more than before. Tiny planets (200r) raise it by like 0.1GB, which isn't worth mentioning, but 1000-2000 can go from that all the way up to the 1.6GB. Perhaps this could be part of it? (Highly unlikely though)

    Does it matter what size the planet is when returning to game menu? Does this only occur when going back from a game? How about the server lobby selection screen or the game lobby? Does this happen from the system editor? Does it happen from armory/settings/etc.?

    Just being thorough! The more tests that you can do to make this reproducible to a specific action the better!

    :D Even my i3 build has 16GB. Though my A10-7850K only has 8GB (although it is some beast memory) and my other piece of crap has 2GB and a C2Q... Though that is DDR2.

    I usually only play on one map. That is my custom de_doge2. This map has about 8 (I'm not playing right now, so I can't check. I will later) 400 size planets. This never happens from the system editor, but I rarely ever preview planets there. This also does not happen from the armory or settings.

    Try a 4 400r system, any planet biome should be fine. When I load up 8 400r Earth planets, I'm just shy of 8GB, and your system isn't mine, so it's possible it allocates RAM funny. (Or maybe mine does? :p)

    Edit: Steam version uses RAM and performs differently, so that is also likely part of it. (Steam idling only uses ~0.1-0.2GB more, but in game it's different.

    I doubt this has to do with memory.

    I also have 8GB

    I'd still like the exact error from event viewer to see more details, if there are any :cool:

    I have a feeling it's just some random system specific bug, but it's worth checking.

    The only other thing that I can think of is that maybe updating system drivers (chipset, pci, sata, usb, etc.) could help, if there are even any updates.
