I was digging through old kickstarter posts and came across this one: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...nihilation-a-next-generation-rts/posts/293648

That would be an AWESOME feature.

Yeah it would be awesome. Unfortunately, you bolded the wrong part. It should be:

Huge water only planets to play out all kinds of naval only scenarios will also be supported. Asteroid tsunamis FTW! Some of the water units we can expect include subs, amphibious units, floating buildings and of course battleships!

    First things first!

This could just be a cool effect, similar to the Planet Smash effect. No need for full-on fluid simulation.

I'm more interested in the destructive possibilities of a tsunami.

    Destroy a navy and/or a shoreline base?

We don't need full on water simulation – just an animation and destruction. Very similar to the destruction created by a commander/nuke explosion.

Hell yeah.. This would be awesome if things like Artillery couldn't float, had to be placed on islands and the waves rose and engulfed them.

    It would be.

I'd imagine it would be quite the challenge to code though. Because the tsunami would have to be effected by islands and odd shaped shorelines. Can't be just a circle that moves outward.

    Would be awesome though.

I feel like the tsunami should just temporarily disable units on land. They are giant metal structures and robots after all.

On an all water planet this is devastating. However, on continental, it would only spread to shores and a bit beyond, doing damage but not destroying a land base. Perhaps an asteroid splash in the ocean creates one big wave that is an insta for all naval units and some units left on the shore.

Out in the middle of the ocean, a tsunami is just a rise in the ocean. It's not a crashing wave. Ships in the ocean would simply float over the bump and would be un-damaged. During the big tsunami crisis in Africa a few years back, the US was accused of knowing that the tsunami was going to happen and didn't warn anyone. This was based only on the fact that our ships in the area were not at port and were out in the ocean on exercises. Our warships were completely undamaged. If they had been at port, they would have been demolished.

The crashing wave doesn't form until the water gets shallow. That's why crashing waves are seen on the shoreline, not out in the middle of the ocean.

    Rogue waves ≠ tsunamis

Yea, I feel like it should actually be totally cosmetic--but have the damage travel at the speed of the wave so that it appears that it isn't. Really, It's just a sweet re-skin of the planet smash.

Yes I know but the point is you can have big waves in the middle of the ocean.

While we're at it, why not give the commander a surfboard? Lol, just joking of course, in all seriousness though, I think that the waves should be cosmetic like webster said.

I guess/hope the asteroid impact is something that will be worked on in the future a lot! There is so much that can be done about this gameplay wise and visually.

no way. why does the shockwave kill tons of units on the planet when you smash a dry planet but a water planet would get no damage?
