Since AMD isn´t support driver for vista and xp anymore, how high is the chance you guys won´t let the bakers like me, stand in the rain ? My system is with an i5-2500k, watercooling, an HD 5870 DX11 card, 16GB Ram, SSD etc etc. not the youngest, but defently not an old iron man !! AMD don´t support catalyst driver anymore (i guess cause the last was on dec 2013) and with every build the game is more and more unplayable for me. Last year september there was the problem with mouse in fullscreeen, which isn´t solve until today. With the last builds my game and yesterday first time (blue screen OMG the first since 16 years), the system crashed completly. Weird Win7 get drivers, vista not. Even the Control Center for vista is still up to date .... So again the question to you UBER: What will happen if the game is released ? Vista friendly, or not ?
No luck. These issues you are experiencing are caused by a faulty implementation of the OpenGL driver. You might expect some hot-fixes / work arounds for critical bugs, like the crashes, but don't expect the combination of Vista 64bit + AMD GPU to ever be a first class citizen. Ubers policy so far was always that only up-to-date drivers are supported, if your OS/driver vendor has stopped support for your system - time to upgrade. Btw.: Bluescreens from failing video drivers are a pure Vista thing. In Win8, that far more unlikely due to better memory protection for drivers. Which is also one of the reasons why Vista was abandoned by AMD PS: You have bloated that you are a software developer, haven't you? So have fun getting the stack trace from the memory dump which you got with the bluescreen, providing that is the fastest way to get your bug identified and fixed. PA executable has debug symbols.
The fact that you are still on Vista (which is old now, from 2007) and that AMD drop support for Vista is, I would say "unfortunate", but none of Uber's business. Uber rely heavily on up-to-date gpu drivers, for performance and compatibility. Small studio like them have neither the IT park, nor the time and QA team mandatory for what you're asking. You should definitely look into at least upgrading to 7.
My suggestion... Install a free linux distribution (you can dual boot it so no need to remove windows, all you need is free hdr space or install it on another drive). That way you get access to newer drivers and can keep vista for other stuff. Should only cost you a bit of time Edit, if interested I suggest you look at ubuntu (as it is well supported and simple to use, the installer can automatically set up the dual boot and fiddle with partitions for you, you'll then get a choice when booting your computer of which os to load up).
Still waiting that Uber is answering. I want information from the developer directly, shouldn´t be so hard to respect this ? I wont change the system for the next 4 years, so there is no reason to tell me what i can change, i know this all by my own. @exterminans : Bluescreens is a vista thing ? lol The past 16 years i hadn´t one. Not with Win2K, or with Vista. Knowing how to configure is worth a ton. But hey the computer of my daughter had some ... with Win7 ! Ok i never configured that one Please all. Respect i wish an answer of the development directly.
They will probably answer, but you need to give them some time before getting impatient. Their work day is just starting and I'm sure they have a lot to do.
Didn't say that Bluescreens are a Vista thing. Just that a crashing driver can cause Bluescreens with Vista, and that this behavior is resolved in Windows 8. Besides, what do you expect the devs to say? You can bet that none of them has a comparable test system running, especially not the combination Vista 64bit + AMD. So unless you are capable of providing specific debug informations of your own, there's nothing they could possibly do for you.
I thought only windows 7 & 8 were supported, if so your machine is just outdated and nothing will change that will benefit a installation on Vista.
I am not impatient I just don´t like if people don´t understand i want a qualified answer from the persons, which should know what happen now and not "halftrueanswers". I don´t like to pay money and at the end getting a kick in the ***, cause i won´t play the game: "Pay more and you´re still in"
Wut ? Lol ... "Get me Uber's CEO on this thread right now ! " You misunderstood the purpose of a forum compared to Uber dedicated customer support then It's mainly customers helping other customers in this section of the forum
You got a least a couple of qualified answers: Stated min. requirements list Win7/Win8 and a recent driver version. If you experience a bug with any exotic hardware/software combination, you'll have to provide meaningful debug information. Getting an answer from a dev can take quite a while, especially when not having a specific stack trace or alike at hand.
No disrespect intended... I was trying to give you a *free option that will work with your current hardware* Linux won't cost you a penny, all that is required is HDD space. Your hardware if ample for PA, just not your particular software configuration. If you're not confident with installing an OS I'd be happy to help you through it (the modern Linux operating systems are really really easy to install now, and you can test it by running it directly off a disc with no installation to prove it works properly with your hardware).
Vista is still technically supported, but as you're noting yourself, without driver support, it's going to be dicey. We can work around a small number of driver related issues, but the more out of date the drivers get, the harder it's going to be - especially with OpenGL drivers which are mostly still very new, compared to very mature DirectX drivers.
Thank you Garat. So it is clear for me now, i will be unable to play this game at release day, except we talk about the year 2018 arround I will contact AMD by myself now and will try to get at least a regular statement, which was never given, from my knowledge. Maybe there is a little chance to get beta supported for a while, as long as there are Win7 drivers.
I am an old Unix guy It wouldn´t be a problem, but my time is limited and my computer system isn´t here for mostly gaming, but working. I guess i have to ask my little daughter for her computer but the specs on that is erm, 15 fps with lowest config !! The very sad on this is, i bought this card for a lot of money and it is still one of a kickass card, really no need to change this and AMD don´t feel even obligated to support even 4-5 year old cards. So what next, complete change of the system every 2 years, cause MS brings out Windows every year ? There is a better card out +1,25% Power ... the old 450 Euro card isnt worth anymore, to get support ?? Windows XP support stoped a few weeks ago, vista license owner can now throw it away, after just 7 years ???? A shame, thats what i call it
5870 was released together with Windows 7 and DX11 (as you noted, 5870 is a DX11 card while Windows Vista only supports DX10 - Microsoft's choice). This card is also still supported by AMD on Windows 7 - actually the 5000 series is still receiving bug fixes with recent versions of the drivers since some of the entry level cards still use a similar architecture. It's just that Vista support doesn't make much sense. The OS is 7 years old, and MS forced AMD and Nvidia to provide legacy support for DX10 in addition to DX11 on newer versions of Windows by making DX11 an Windows 7 exclusive feature.
I'm genuinely curious ... why? Why did you feel the need to open another thread about this after the discussion on the german subforum? You got no new information out of this, and even @garat's reply didn't tell you anything that countless other posters didn't already write out time and time again before that. I understand you being annoyed over experiencing issues with PA and Vista. And your situation of not being able to switch from Vista as your primary OS due to work related data on your machine certainly is unique. But not only did you dismiss the idea of setting up a small Linux setup, which had been suggested several times, due to "time constraints" - despite having spent quite some time on the forums discussing your issue. You also completely ignored droves of people telling you that, no, it's most certainly not Uber's job to deliver support for drivers that the hardware manufacturers themselves abandoned. Which should be common sense in the first place.
Wow so my Vista is a special edition, cause it supports DX11 ?? My system is comparable to win7, so you´re right... it doesn´t make sense at all.
Shwyx. I wanted an information directly from Uber about this. Everyone knows some, and at the end its only the half of the truth, or not even that. I don´t have the equipment for Linux, cause this computer i sometimes play with, is a very important work machine for me, not for experimental. As i said, i could use the PC of my daughter, with Win7, but the components inside are good for minecraft at 25fps, not for PA and i dont buy a 200$+ card for this system. For me PA is over so far. Maybe i can play on in 4-5 years, if the game still exist. Til then i play games which provides my system as it is. Time will tell.
Not really sure what you mean here because you can install any Linux system even on USB stick so you don't even need to touch your HDD. It's would be more than enough for PA because it's don't need tons of disk reads. Though I'm not one of guys that recommend Linux to beginners so upgrade to Win7 would be a lot better solution.
