for those not familiar with dune: http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/Heighliner

You know, the astreus does an alright job of loading up a single unit, and area select means you can transport an army easily enough to another planet, make a beachhead, build a teleporter (if you haven't got orbital fabbers to do it for you, or really need some guns there so the teleporter doesn't get bombed within seconds)

Heighliners are cool. You load them up with all sorts of ships, send them to another planet, and then disgorge them. But screw doing it sedately with ships flying out and landing in planets. These are robots! Smash them down into the planet, during and after a bombing spray to clear out the immediate area.

You could just have a whole bunch of t1/2 demolisher tanks dropped into the middle of an enemy base, provided the orbital fire doesn't tear up the ships.

I'm sure that multiple transport orbital lift units are planned, but in the case they're not and this hasn't been mentioned more than 50 times before, yeah. Multi unit transports with smashy smash droppods.

and another "drop units from orbit" idea/thread that has been suggested and discussed to death before ...

but the difference is, just like anyone who's not bothered to read all the multi unit transport threads, mine is the best.

Because smashy drop pods. Unit cannons are totally cool too.

You know, it's a crazy idea, but I like the idea of using a hailey, not to smash into a planet, but to make your hailey equipped planet a moon, and then to start bombarding them with units from "close"

You know, this is why I mostly leave the design ideas to those I paid to make me the game because I know my ideas are crazy.

Then again, TA had the vulcan/buzzsaw and supcom had the scatthis. Why that was mobile I will never know, it's not like it needed to be with that range. Crazy overthetop ideas are sometimes fun. Except scatthis. I used to keep nukes t3 bombers in reserve to swat them.

That was one of the hopes for the unit cannon. But, it has been implemented (the change orbit) and when it comes back in (temporarily removed), it greatly increases the speed of orbital changes, good for fast nuking so they can't move their Comm fast enough.

The biggest reasons why multi-unit transports aren't in is the "what you see is what you get" principle that Mavor is sticking to. Also, multiple attachment bones (I think that's what they are called. @squishypon3 !) don't work right, so they can't just make a big rectangle and load it up with units :p

    Neat idea though!
