Performance makes game unplayable

    I just don't understand. I have a worse graphics card, but I'm not having those issues at all. The game runs quite smoothly until you start having 1000s of units. I have been playing 10 player games no issue, with many more planets in the system.

    Would you mind telling us about the rest of your system, including your internet connection speed?

    Personally Devs, keep doing what you are doing.

    2 planets scale 4, but happens on a single scale 5 moon aswell. 2 teams of 2 people. Me and my mate both GTX780+ gpu's.

    We usually always see it happen once players start creating armies. Last time i had a massive army of 500 spiders beeing totally idle, but causing lag. I deleted them all, and game performance was a lot better.

    Stop bitching with computer specs. The game is network limited because all the sim has to be uploaded to players. I often see 100KB/s down from pa.exe and the game is ok. But when the game is lagging/freezing you can see downlaod from PA.exe is 30KB/s which does not allow the game to update smoothly.

    Performance problems are server side and network related.

    Exactly, and that is why i say this needs to be fixed. Atm the game is simply unplayable.

    Otherwise there is no point in complaining about a game that is still WIP.

    Have you been actually measuring the FPS while beeing in that situation?
    I do also think it´s linked to the problem that every game is just running over UberentServers (this makes it easier to do Bugfixing and so on) and this won´t be the state in the final game!
    Anyways, ClientPerformance has been really bad before and it isn´t anymore. Thats a good step and I´m sure Uber will continue travelling on that road!

    This is purely network related, no matter your computer, you will not see this unless you are network lagging. I have unstable Internet and crash often die to network issues however, I don't think the game is very good at using the network, currently.

    Since this thread talks about an issue with the server and performance issues, shouldn't this thread belong in the Support Forum?

    Also, I am suffering from bad network lag. If this server lag was gone, PA would be even more enjoyable.

    Yes, the game is very network limited, and I'm not sure why it won't pull much over 150KB/s when it could be using all of my 500KB/s. I can say for certain that the game isn't just network limited, I have an i7-3770K @ 4.8GHz and I use up to 40% during gameplay, and not even my GTX 780 can keep up more than 10FPS at the max settings. The game is very hardware oriented and they are trying to optimize for it currently, as they are likely doing with the bandwidth requirements.

    Also, the sim runs at 10 FPS and the server at 1 FPS. People seem to think that is a bad thing when it's meant to save on resources.

    How can you say that?

    I have been playing PA over 400 hours since early alpha and have seen alpha versions of the game that performed way better compared to what we have at this moment.

    The way i see it:
    The balancing of the game at this moment, forces you to create a large army pretty early in the game. The problem is, the engine/server/netcode simply can't handle all of it. And now i'm just talking about one or two planets with avg 6 players on it, nothing special.

    Don't get me wrong. I do love the effort Uber puts in this game, but at this moment, the game is simply unplayable. When me and my mate play, the game turns into a slideshow -for all players- just about after 15 minutes, which is imho simply something that can be called unplayable.

    I seem to recall there was talk about the game soon'ish to be ready for 40 player battles. But the server backend not being up to specs yet.

    I mean they gotta have something in the works, because 6 players lacking i feel you, i have the same problem atm up to 40 player battles.

    So optimizing will be coming. can you imagine the amount of units in a 40 man game lol. probably up towards 100.000-200.000 units.

    Wut, back in Alpha I got 5fps on small planets, now I get 50 to 60 fps and I have freaking integrated graphics, haha! :p

    You don't seem to understand that performance varies.

    PERFORMANCE VARIES.

    Upload game logs and DxDiags, yelling about your problem isn't going to help.

    "How to Report Performance Issues.


    1. Post LobbyId. (After the game is over, go to the main screen, choose the REPLAYS option, change the SHOW REPLAYS FOR to MY GAMES ONLY and then record the LobbyId of the game).

    2. Press control-P and take a screenshot of the "sim" and "client" screens.

    3. List any server mods you are running. If the answer is not "none" you will get less priority.

    4. Press ctrl+F11 to capture a client UberProbe. It will be a .upf file saved to, on Windows, C:\Users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\PerfLogs\. Upload this file.

    5. Share any additional information you think may be useful."

    I'm confused as to why I can play very smooth games with 4-6 players on 2-4 planet systems, then. Don't notice lag until late game, once everybody basically has planet-wide armies - and my internet connection isn't the greatest here in Australia, either.

    Like someone told me a week or two ago, upload your DxDiag so people can at least look at your system to determine what's what.

    I linked to this twice already in this thread, both were ignored. Some people seem to prefer just shoutimg at a wall rather than actually doing something constructive tomget their issues fixed.

    There are plenty of bugs and alot of room for perf. improvments, but if the game is unplayable for you, then its a issue on ur end.
