So I found out that 4 GB is not enough for this game, specially when there are many planets. So I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB. I had played in 3 or 4 planet maps with mt 4 GB and when there were many building and armies game would get laggy. but now that I have 8 GB I thought I try a multiplayer match, I joined this lobby with 6+ planets and when the game started right from the beginning it was 10-15 FPS. While I used to get average 40-50... So I was really shocked, I checked Task manager and many instances of Cohorent UI were using my ram while the game had only taken 4 GB of it my total memory usage was on 7 GB!

what is this thing? what should I do?

oh also, Im running the game without steam because it made me get really horrible FPS and I fixed that by running the game without Steam. So there is no Steam overlay in-game either.

Hmm....I played on a custom made-system that had seven or more planets once and my FPS was fine for the most part. A Dxdiag would be helpful to diagnose the problem.

What types of planets were in that match? Earth and Lava planets tend to take up the most memory due to high detail.

P.S. I think this thread would best belong in the Support forum as it describes a technical issue.

Probably means you need to close any web browser

open task manager and kill those processes, that should fix it.

I'm serious about the web browser, i've had ram problems from chrome before.

About the UI processes, i know lots of people have issues with ram. Thats basically the UI split up.

On second thought, you cant end those without closing the program.

You're playing on too many large planets for your system. Usually when I play 1 600-800r I end up around 6.5-7GB total usage out of my 16. Also, Coherent UI takes up ~2.5GB.

Edit: You are actually running the same amount of memory as me in more planets because a lot of your OS and background processes are cached to your hard drive, and because the system always avoids 100% RAM usage.

Your FPS issue is because of the number of planets loaded. You used to play on far less than that--only 4GB of RAM worth, that is, which means it was easier for your system to handle the graphics load.

By the way, could you upload a dxdiag.txt? (go to startmenu, search dxdiag.exe, run it, save all information and then upload the resulting file) It provides us all of your driver information a most of your system's hardware configuration.

Coherent UI is the user interface for PA. It has many pages running at once to help with the UI lag that was plaguing us for a while--it's like having 25+ tabs of google chrome (Chromium) open at once, all displaying things. The game UI is built, literally, as a webpage that PA loads over everything. It allows increased mod support and is very versatile.

    Hello,

According to your Dxdiag, you seem to have out of date drivers:

    Code:
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
    Dedicated Memory: 1011 MB
    Driver Date/Size: 4/17/2014 22:42:54, 1343272 bytes
Also, you have only 1GB of VRAM. 2GB of VRAM is strongly recommended for multi-planet systems. I have a 2GB card and I can play on a system with 6 - 7 planets at 30 FPS minimum.
