A rather simple question, what is the size of Earth by PA standards.I ask this because if you wanted to attempt to recreate Earth in PA you would need a supercomputer, however this may not be the case in couple of years...

The Earth has a radius of about 6,371,000 meters.

We would only be able to calculate the exact radius of Earth in PA if we had the ratio (in meters) of the commanders to a certain sized moon. ie: a commander is about 8 meters across, but we would need the radius of the moon in meters.

PA is in metres. So to play on a scale model of earth, you'd set the planet generator to 6,371,000. And then wait... a very long time.

EDIT: actually now I'm doubting myself. Are planet radiuses actually in metres? I can't get into the game myself to check right now.

or wait for technology to catch up .... .... huuhhh boy .... just imagine .... modding the range you can set planets away from the sun and then creating planets with thausands of kilometers in radius ... finding a commander would be like trying to find the needle in the strawheap ...

For the general populous? Eeeh... If it's simplified by a large margin.

well yes if the game is in meters then the Earth would have to be radius 6,371,000

well you would need to take a SuperComputer to render it... in a Year

As far as I know - yes. When Alpha released we actually have different way to set radius, but then it's was replaced by meters. :)

I've just realised I was a plonker. I was thinking "there's no way a size 200 moon is only 200 metres wide" but then I realised that diameter != radius.

7000 is already unatainable with the hardware you can buy today given unlimited funds (especially since PA doesn't support SLI and Crossfire) so you can give up.

Basically GPU is not required to just generate large planets... :p
Though once I buy some new SSDs I'm going to check how real is idea to generate anything that's actually large.

So a 2000 radius planet has a 4km diameter. That's about the length of Central Park. That's not very big.

    A 4km diameter, but a 50.3km2 surface area.
