I'd imagine most people would say the opposite.

I could only play small systems in Beta and can play much larger systems these days.

Actually I'm with Nuketf on this, I had rendered planets (in the lobby) much faster in beta, now I can't ever make it before the comms drop. I also used to play at max graphics only a couple updates/months ago, back when super dark lighting was a thing. :p

However fps HAS increased, went from 30fps average, to 50-60 early game. :D

It wouldn't run for me in beta for 6 months after I bought it. Now it runs fantastic

My PC's performance has only gotten better over time.
Maybe you should get some more RAM.

Latest patch seems very choppy in terms of performance, it starts chugging in a way that it never did before.

I really do need more RAM, sadly motherboard can only support 8, I'll get 4 more when I can, temporary solution until I move to Hawaii :D (this is true, and happening)

My main perf-problem are those server-FPS-drops which can last for several seconds on huge maps...
...they´ve gone worse since the last update, but the reason could be the increased amouth of games running at the same time!

Client-Performance-Wise it just had gone up and up for me. Nearly unplayable till the huge recent performance update, O.K. after that point. Still seems to be bound to CPU and Memory a lot, hope this will change in the next year when OpenGL 5 is released...

I dont quite get this. Well it HAS improved since the beta, even though the pathfindung lately sucks (i heard they lately did major changes to pathfinding, something about voxels? whatever that is), but i have 8 GB Ram and it has to be possible that this game will be playable with it. even in lategame. Especially when they want 40 player at the same time. The target audience for this game is already small enough without requiring a new gaming PC. Even though the thoughts that this game explicit targets rich gamers already crept in too, with all the commander for 10$ etc.
Anyway, right now i have no real performance problems early-mid, lategame it gets quite slow, and at some point still the game crashes which is no fun at all, but i guess Uber still gonna optimize alot.

nuketf, if your computer configuration is still up to date in your signature, then 2GB of RAM are probably not enough to properly generate and load. You're computer is probably spending a lot of time accessing the hard drive, which makes things very slow (even an SSD is 10000x slower than RAM).
More RAM = less access to disk for programs working with big memory allocation = faster loading and execution

I haven't noticed this issue, but you two are running on low end (gaming) PCs unlike me (and Brian, I'm assuming).

RAM isn't a huge factor late-game, that is primarily a bandwidth (downloading unit updates) issue or a CPU (calculating unit updates) issue. Occasionally, it is a server (sim slow-down) problem as well.

P.S.: Sorry for double post, wasn't paying attention.

I think it's my RAM, my graphics card has no VRAM so my entire system including graphics card's all fighting over a measly 4 gigs, this means when I play PA I have 98% RAM usage, sadly my motherboard can only support eight.. but even eight would probably give a large improvement, because that'd be 98% divided in two, and then give more room to use more RAM.

I've noticed this as well... I have to wait quite a while to get into games due to my 4gb of ram. Lately the memory footprint has increased significantly (PA uses nearly a gb of memory just in the lobby due to all the various UI threads, some of them are using as much as 200mb and there are usually 20 or so of them running).

My frame rates are superb *once I get into game* but getting into game takes ages now. The frustrating thing is I can't upgrade my desktop memory without significant expense due to it being limited to 2 slots of DDR2 memory (which is only really available in 2gb modules). I've been looking at getting a newer motherboard with DDR3 support and 4 ram slots + an 8gb module, that will set me back £100 which I just don't have spare right now.
