No, that's not it. It's broken now in very obvious way. I didn't notice it having much of such acceleration before. But admittedly I didn't analyze the behavior either, because it just felt ok. Now if I move the wheel, say, 8 'notches', slowly one at a time, the camera moves distance Z. If I move it 8 notches fast, it moves distance k*Z, where k is random value < 1. So it's "deceleration" now, like ctpconumdrum says, but randomly depending on performance of... something.
For me it works flawlessly, but you guys are definitely getting some problems. You need to lock down how to reproduce it so hopefully Uber can work out why it's doing it for you guys.
Okay I take it all back. I had been recording which keeps my framerate pretty constant, however after firing a game up and starting at 120 fps without recording, my scroll speed is insane. Looks like it is related to framerate. Mentioned it to Brad in the games we just played so hopefully it can get looked at.
I have this problem, too. If it's a framerate issue, then I'm screwed since I'm playing on a Dell XPS 18 all-in-one. Can't do anything on my hardware and I'm already running it with pretty low settings. It's not exactly a gaming rig.......
Just adding another voice to the choir here. It was fine pre-patch (2 patches if you count the hotfix). Scroll wheel zoom gets slower then faster as a game progresses - getting faster as players are eliminated which I assume is network/fps related. Not an issue before on the same machine.
The new zoom level thing is plain unplayable to me. Does anyone know how to get the accelartation thing back? Without it it takes foorever to zoom. FOREVER xD
the issue is that it isnt dynamic anymore. I cant control the zoom speed by doing a quicker movement or a slower movement. It's just a constant translation from mouse wheel move > a little zoom move. Before it was possible to zoom too celestial with one quick move. Now I need like 5 sec to do it.
I think it would be nice to have two speeds, one in orbit of a planet and a faster one while in the system view.
That would be helpful! I was playing an FFA on Saturday where it was taking me up to 5 seconds to zoom out far enough to check if any units were getting sent across planets via orbital. My zoom at ground level wasn't too bad at the time.
Well its not locked with the fps anymore, like the livebuild. And it dosent seem to bother me anymore.
Yeah I agree, it doesn't seem to be tied to the FPS so much anymore, but its still not consistent. Sometimes the scrolling is fast and other times I have to scroll the wheel multiple times.
