According to http://www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_signs_types_diagnosis_treatment.htm , depression is defined as having a significant portion of the following symptoms:
    • you can’t sleep or you sleep too much
    • you can’t concentrate or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult
    • you feel hopeless and helpless
    • you can’t control your negative thoughts, no matter how much you try
    • you have lost your appetite or you can’t stop eating
    • you are much more irritable, short-tempered, or aggressive than usual
    • you’re consuming more alcohol than normal or engaging in other reckless behavior
    • you have thoughts that life is not worth living (seek help immediately if this is the case)

Above: An allegorical example of a person undergoing the extreme psychical upheavals of a clinical depression, with self-delusional thoughts being illustrated pictorially (note that any resemblance to real life is strictly coincidental).

While hosting Planetary Annihilation using an i5-3570K processor, 8GB DDR3-2000mhz RAM, and an R9 270X with 2GB VRAM, Windows 8.1 64-bit, and a 25MB/s connection, I realized that right from the start, my game is extreme jittery. It stutters once every 2 seconds, and the game appears like a slideshow to me. This has only happened only with the current patch, but not with earlier patches. However, when I host it in a 1 vs 1 game versus an AI, there is no such lag; however, my FPS is 30 at best, regardless of which graphical settings I pick.

And so now I am depressed; because I know that I will never, ever be able to succeed in PA like players with much better game performance. I'm depressed because:
    • I cannot sleep while worrying over the poor performance,
    • I cannot concentrate well because of the severe stuttering,
    • I feel hopeless about being able to use sheer willpower and telepathy to reduce lag,
    • I cannot control the negative thoughts arising from being bombarded by 100 Boombots during lag,
    • I lost my appetite while being bombarded by Bumblebees during lag,
    • I have gotten irritable over my losing streak due to the lag,
    • I have begun to drink a lot of alcoholic beverages to cope with disconnects during lag,
    • and finally, I feel so suicidal, that I self-detonate my commander whenever the lag is too unbearable.
Is anyone else getting such poor performance as well (along with the clinical depression that accompanies this lag issue)?

Very strange, there is something wierd going on!

1: Hosting vs skirmish makes no difference- the server / simulation part of the game isn't released yet. That is all calculated on Uber's servers and the data sent back to you.

2: Your machine is *waaay* above the specifications of either of my machines and both of mine are running smoothly (note my main rig is based on a Phenom II X3, 4gb of ram and a 1gb GTX 560- on low settings I'm getting 90+ fps and 30+ fps at game end with loads of units).

First things first, can you post a DXDIAG? PA is very sensitive to drivers so having anything older than the latest stable release will kill performance...

Will do when I get logged in to my computer :)

I updated my video driver to the latest, and am using the Steam version of PA; however, I still get 30 fps at best, with 25-ish fps most of the time at both uber and low settings. Very strange.

Now recovering from commander suicide attempt in a psychiatric ward T___T

If you have everything at MAX settings even the resolution scaling, turn that back down to 100%. I had the same situation as you with the same kind of PC, and when i turned down the resolution scaling to 100% it turned out way better for me, and never had lag or stutter issues anymore. Might help might not help, try it out ^^

    Try standard workarounds:

1 - Try to run game without "Steam Community Overlay":
Right click the game in your Library -> Select Properties -> On the General tab, uncheck the box next to Enable Steam Community In-Game

2 - Try to run it using standalone launcher:
    https://store.uberent.com/download/pa

3 - Check this list of incompatible software:
    http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558751813508748383/
If you have any of programs in list installed try to run game with software disabled (try it first) or removed (better).
