Is it just me, or is PA not supported for Retina? When playing on my macbook pro retina, it doesnt look like PA is optimized to support retina.

There likely was zero optimization for large DPI or just large screens so it's not surprise.

do you see yourself playing PA on Intel graphics at 2560x1600/2880x1800? Sure this game isn't demanding but still it's in gamma. but I can't fathom that anyone would want to play a game at that resolution on a laptop it just uses more resources and battery :/

There's gonna be some people with 4K monitors who would like to play at 3940x2160 and this highres thing is not going away, ALL software needs to take this into account now.

I know there is 4k but it doesn't make much sense for laptops to run the game at the resolution. yeah it'll be awesome from 4k support in PA but nothing except top tier cards would be able to drive it

4k is just a stepping stone to 8K (ultra high definition television) it is already standardized by ITU. What we're seeing here is hard work catching up to the standard. UHD television and displays at that resolution is the future. PA should support 4K for the reason that it is out there. People who have a 4k resolution monitor will expected to work.
