So...i recently tried to sign back onto PA. Haven't been on in awhile, was really enjoying the nice polishing to the game. The landing on planets is very nice, and I also like the new galactic war mode. Except....I can't play the game. I've been crashing consistently, once when I played 4 minutes in a galactic war game, another time it crashed when I clicked on a planet to begin a battle, I didn't even reach the loading screen. Then I also tried AGAIN and I crashed 2 minutes into another game. Am I the only one experiencing these issues? Its very frustrating because I love this game....
Thank you for the very philosophic information there, I know them already quite well. But that doesn't help with my crashing issue.
It basically shows the information about your system, your graphics card, processor, your drivers, etc... Just search "dxdiag" into the windows start search bar and it'll open a program, copy the information there! Either post it here, or post a text document with the information here.
What exactly would I post. Upon completing dxdiag? I don't think you want me to post all, what is it, 6 pages of information?
I'll just piggyback here because I'm experiencing frequent crashes as well. Usually after Alt-Tabbing or when rejoining games, or when a lot of stuff is going on (think 3-5 fully occupied planets). Everything is up to date afaik, and here's the DxDiag. A few days old, but nothing has changed since in terms of hard- or software.
Your driver is about a year old. I know AMD doesn't release drivers too often but over a year seems like a stretch. Don't think that that's the issues, but you never know. I'm no expert so I don't really know what else it might be. *shrugs*
Those actually are the latest drivers availabe for my card. The HD 4850 I'm using must be around 4-5 years old, but it's still doing its job admirably.
sometimes people think crashing is when the game freezes. It's only a true crash if it says you might want to upgrade though... any modern $70 GPU would outperform that. You should keep it as an artifact
PA is surprisingly gpu friendly though. It's way more cpu bottlenecked. I dno if it helps, but maybe log.txt in AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log might shed some light?
CPU bottlenecked? As in it doesn't use much CPU (because it physically can yet) or uses too much? Because if anything PA seems to eat up RAM, 98% RAM usage with 4 gigs at least xP
RAM is by far this biggest bottleneck in PA, at least early game. The larger the system, the bigger the bottleneck.
Unfortunately AMD Legacy drivers are crash-prone. There is clearly some instabilities in this version and something going to be fixed, but before many issues on Legacy was caused by driver.
