Seems like a lot of people who posted on this forum disagrees with the idea of everything having a regen. Best thing to do is make a pole with more details on how it would work and why its a good idea. Unless UBER already has plans for HP regeneration, there's more important things that needs to be focused on for the next and future updates.
Fair enough, I can get behind that. In the very least I advocate creating the basis for such regeneration so it can be be perused by modders. I suddenly have a vision of bots with significant out-of-combat regeneration.
They already have that ... sort of; you just use a Combat Fabber. --- +1 for modding support in any and all its forms.
Self-repair mechanics don't seem so out of place- especially considering they are part of the lore. Just spitballing here, but what if commanders could go into a sort of "rest mode"? Nah, wouldn't work. Early game, the commander's too important for construction, and late game, you WILL be able to repair them easily.
Yeah, that was just me talking nonsense, good catch. Replacing synergy with redundancy would be a bad, bad move.
However, in a modded environment (especially for certain shifts into other sub-genres of RTS,) it's downright mandatory. It'll probably depend on whether conceivably large numbers of units, all updating their health values per server tick is going to cause issues. I would assume it wouldn't, what with all the physics and trajectory calculations... but every little bit of load is another thing that will stress the server.
For me, this need to be a priority, or at least be her when the game is released... taking your advice: For Commander, the regen would work like a 10hp/s regen, this way you would be able to regen, w/out making a super tanking unit. the propose for regen is to break the micro involving the Commander repair, so between a wave and another, if you are focused on another place, your commander will get the full Hp making it harder to kill...
on this video, for example at 10:13 White Com is w/ no health and can get a Snipe from some bombers and Die... and if he not invest 23k to repair himself he will eventually Die... w/ Regen he would no need to invest this bunch of metal... and if regen get a "need for metal"(that I disagree) he at least would not need to micro his units to repair himself.
You do realize that at 10hp/s it would take over 20 minutes for a Comm to regen from 1 HP to it's max HP at 12,500. I don't really see a need for it, Repair exists already and it's not like the HP just magically vanished, it vanished for a reason, maybe the player poorly placed his commander, maybe he took a calculated risk by using it's Uber Cannon to stop an attack and took damage in the process. HP loss happens as a consequence form decisions and that's fine, we shouldn't have to hold player's hands in this regard, The Commander is his "King Piece", you don't get second chances in Chess and you shouldn't here. I just like how cheap units are like toilet paper, and how stronger units already have OP health regen you purchase for them called "Combat Fabbers". Seems symbiotic to me.
As far as I'm concerned, free regen should certainly be off the table, nor does it need to be some silly justification for why it would use resources. Really, the practical question here is simply one of "can units with repair abilities repair themselves?". Doesn't have to be anything more than that, they can already repair, just decide if they can target themselves.
Yes I know that you need a lot of time to get the HP back... Edit- don't need to be a 10HP/s Regen, can be a 30hp/s or even a 100hp/s but w/ regen(lets assume w/out the need of metal) you would not need metal or micro a lot of fabbers to repair it I know that its a "king" ... but a lot of people like to use it like a "queen" you have a unit that can kill alot of enemies and have a bunch of HP, why you would let it idle in your base when you can press the enemy, especialy in small maps A commander in fight is the same of ~20 tanks in fight(assuming that we are not talking about OP Infernos)+ UberCannon A commander in the Base is the same of 2,5 Fabbers... I Know that you want to get your Com protected, but at least, on early game, you want to get it to the front to have more FirePower than the enemy...(then you can get more map control and have better odds to win) But if you don't want it, why not replace it gun for another 30M/s NanoLathe?
if you look for what I post the "Cost" regen would at least kill a lot of micro (but yet I am for the free, or the Comm don't produce Metal when hurt, because of its NanoLathe and Metal production is the same)
