And by now its been ages again since the last update... gazilion bugs still in there and well no clue what the community manager is doing but there doesnt seem to be any communication on all these bugs from Uber's side... By now I had countless games that crash midway and then just keep on crashing when you try to rejoin it... And thats only 1 of a gazilion bugs.. And I know its easy to keep hiding behind 'Yeah but it's Alpha/Beta'.. But thats just a weak excuse for slacking even more in development. Slowly getting the feeling that Uber thinks 'Hmm money is in the pocket... now we dont care anymore'. More bug examples... Not being able to select units anymore (This actually needs a restart of the game to fix). The build menu's not showing anymore (F5 fixes it but still it's a bug..). Game crashing mid way games. Lobby's keep bugging up when 1 spot left to fill. Friendlist still not working for one bit. Most units not being able to hit T2 Warrior kbots when they are under water.
Actually, they are working on bugs in the PTE, such as area patrol. And I'm sure they are working on the UI issues, as that's easily the most noticeable.
lol, if you don't want the "it's in alpha/beta" answer, I recommend learning a bit about software development. This is what it is, you are going to have bugs, and the alternative is much less pleasant. If Uber did strenuous internal testing to squash the "gazillion" bugs, we would still be waiting for this game in years to come. They simply don't have time for that. Other early access games may release relatively bug free updates (kerbal space program for example) however most of these have private experimental and QA teams that thoroughly test new builds before they go live. In this game, we are all the QA guys, that is what is implicit when buying into an early access game. Personally I think they should release a lot fewer stable builds and just do lots of PTE builds, so people don't get the wrong impression and we can avoid situations like this. Of course the disadvantage is that new features don't come out to the general populace as quickly, and we'll probably get "lack of progress" threads rather than "bug" threads. Also, some things can only be tested by the masses, beyond the numbers PTE can provide. And finally, some bugs are just really nasty. Some bugs only show up on specific hardware that uber doesn't have, some may be known by uber but happen rarely enough that they release anyway to get feedback on a feature and fix the bug later, rather than spend a lot of time squashing a bug and delay the whole process. Uber is not a big publisher, and does not have the financial ability to leave a game in development for years on end (Spore...). They have to get the game built as quickly as possible. In short, be patient please, once they officially release 1.0, and if the bugs continue, then feel free to complain. Expectations are different then.
We get automatic reports with logs and debug data for all crashes. There's currently a client side crash that can happen in some cases when you reconnect. It was the last thing several of us talked about on Friday so it's a high priority item. There are still bugs and still work to do. We're working more than a few extra hours to make that happen sooner rather than later. I think folks who have been playing for awhile would agree that it gets better update by update. The disappearing UI is a particular sore point at the moment. We would love it if someone had a 100% repro for that bug in particular. As I always say, a bug that can be repro'd is a bug that can be fixed. That bug in particular may be nasty enough that there isn't a straight forward "do X, Y, and then Z and the UI dies". But if it did and if someone could tell us those steps we'd be pretty damn happy.
A ticket without repo steps might be worse than no ticket at all. If there was no ticket at least the man hours go into something you can fix instead of spinning your wheels. If it helps any, on the first PTE build with the threaded UI I lost the UI as soon as a GW game started, every game. I'm not sure if skirmish was stable, but it started with UI for sure. When the the threaded UI came out in the main build I could start both modes fine, but a few minutes into game I would lose my UI. Following Uber's advice on the forum I updated my Nvidia drivers and the problem went away and has not come back.
Got a feeling that bug always happens to me when im doing orbital stuff and zooming in/out while doing orbital stuff.
The game is only getting Awesomer with each update. I 'm really tired of the complaining threads. Uber isn't doing the money in hand don't care any more. If you would take just a little bit to read the forums you would see that they are communicating and that they do care and plan to support this game for a while. Also they are working towards a 1.0 release. Why would they sabotage their own project?
I like the way this game is going so far. I can't complain much about the performance issue since I played this as of December of 2013 last year, and have noticed that the performance has certainly been improved drastically. A lot of work still needs to be done, true, but back then, even 100 Doxes can cause the system to enter a slideshow, whereas right now, games with up to 10000 units are now possible (albeit with a lot of lag). It's certainly a 100-fold increase in performance, and it's only going to get better on the supposition that Uber would tweak performance to the point where 40-player games are possible. 2 thumbs up, and 2 toes up for Uber.
