I like infernos but common its a flame tank. It should have heavy armour and a flame that is strong vs buildings. The inferno should not be strong vs tanks. 2 infernos should not be able to own 8 tanks. And I know guys will say micro but if you rush them to a base you cant micro especially on scale 2.
WYSIWYG If I see a tank that does a certain DPS to buildings, I expect that tank to do the same DPS to units.
That's C&C. This is not. Currently the only cases in which armor is used is 1. When AA weapons hit buildings (0 damage) 2. When an Uber cannon hits a structure (25% damage) 3. When an Uber cannon hits a com (25% damage) All other combat is entirely devoid of armor systems. I see no reason not to leave it that way.
Then call it... plasma and color it blue. Or super-goo and color it purple. Realism is a guideline. If we went for 100% realism, then just about everything with PA would change and it would be a crappy game. We need to find the fine line between "real" and "fun."
A plasma is ionized matter, that is, matter with a charge (meaning that it has a different number of protons than it does electrons). Fire, lightning, etc are all plasma.
Turns out that that all those tasty internals that make the Armored shell useful beyond being a useless hunk of metal ARE rather vulnerable to fire. Don't get me wrong, the specific style of Uber's Inferno isn't great, it's basically trying to be a giant blowtorch, I'm much more partial to the "Napalm Fire" style myself. Mike
That bit could be a little misleading to someone who doesn't know you're referring to a single atom here. Just to clarify for others; you don't need a different number of protons and electrons overall in plasma. What it is, is that not all the electrons in plasma are bound to atoms; you have with free (negative) electrons and (positive) ions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degree_of_ionization#Physics_usage A fully ionized plasma will basically be a mix of free electrons and atomic nuclei.
I'd actually like it if the Inferno did less damage, had a lot less HP and was a lot faster, like an armoured vehicle/humvee. That'd differentiate it from the Vanguard and provide us with a fast-moving, close-range vehicle capable of chasing down the enemy or clearing forest/jungles quickly ahead of an advance.
I think infernos should be strong against bots because they got lower armor but not so much against tanks and buildings. But in order to make them more effective vs bots they should move faster.
Are you suggesting that (t1) bots should be beaten by the only type of unit they can currently beat (with lots of micro, but still)?
