New way for trolls to ruin the game

I just played a game today, and one of the players CD-Key was his name, after being defeated he started to hit the pause button non stop rendering the game unplayable for the other people. The pause button is a great addition but there should be limits to how it can be used, e.g if u r dead u don't need to pause the game.

To be honest this is probably being done by only a few idiots, but he managed to ruin the game for everyone else. And this things tend to be picked up by people with no respect for the game, soon we all might be at the mercy of these people who don't know how to lose.

Hmm..maybe there should be a cooldown to pausing the game.

On the flip side, spectators can pause when someone disconnects. That's been very helpful in tournaments and general gameplay.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier.

What we need is a way to vote kick people from a game. But then again, that could be exploitable.

Or maybe people need to agree on a pause. Or something.

In short, there will always be a way for trolls to troll. It's a matter of finding the best way for regular players to prevent trolls.

I second on the vote pause idea, kinda annoying when a host can just leave and pause outta the blue.

I agree. A hard limit like that should be reasonable for when we finally fix all these bugs and DC's, and will prevent people from spamming it.

Eh. Except there's legitimate reasons for more than three pauses, especially on longer games. A pause cooldown would be better.

Something like you can pause 3 times, and the counter resets every 15mins? Maybe make it configurable by the game host - #pauses, reset_timer options.

Trolls will always have a way to troll.

It's about limiting their effectiveness.

We also need to not gimp the game for good players in favor of trolls.

How about 3 pauses per person and a lobby setting that allows unlimited/no pauses. This can't be abused and is good enough for most games.

So lemme get this straight - lesser skilled players (AKA most of the playerbase) should have to suffer through annoying 12 year old children ruining the fun of a game just because le 1337 playerz can't keep a decent connection?

I really don't see much difference. We can't stop people from Trolling, all we can do is to deter them from it. However, that can place unreasonable burdens on legitimate players who may need to use said feature.

What players need is an ability to remove the problem player without having to be burdened by restrictions to in-game features(like the pause button). Otherwise we are only punishing the players, not the trolls.

The problem i have with a vote-kick system is that people can kick someone in game if they're too good.

I think there should be a limit to the amount of pauses a person gets in a match. Like time outs in sports.

Vote-kicks are flawed, yes.
But you know what ISN'T flawed? Report and ban.

I'd say the best solution would be to only allow pause if the majority of players consent.

Player presses pause button, others get an option to agree or disagree. All it requires is for the initiator to type "BRB going to the loo" in chat and there shouldn't be any problems.

And any solution will be exploitable one way or another, but this should stop griefers at least.

nobody uses it to troll on FAF and FAF has more players than PA. we just need to be patient.

six year olds never stick around these kinds of games for long, and once the ladder and ranking comes along, they'll have each other to deal with and we won't.
