Will there be radar jammer buildings and units like there was in TA? I miss have the ability to block view and radar. Also I am in Beta for Elite Dangerous, they got a video that shows the sun with solar flares and stuff. Got me to thinking how much fun it might be to be able to select what kind of sun you want. Could be the regular yellow stable one, maybe red, or white/blue. Also can select how stable or unstable it is. Unstable sun would shoot random solar flares at the solar system. If the base gets hits it disables it for like 10sec and your screen turns to static maybe and some buildings / units take some random damage.
Radar jamming is ( I think ) a confirmed no. Solar flares: no. Why? Losing to a random event is the bane of every competitive player.
Jamming is a maybe. Probably not for 1.0, but quite possibly for afterwards. Random events are bad. Losing units, and the match, because of a random unpreventable act is bad. Things like that are a confirmed no.
However random events that every player is told about at the start of a match that is formed through the system editor could be cool...Thing about it, all players know the resource rich planet will die in x minutes. So, do they stay and grab the resources for the time being or up and leave immediately. This could create more alive feels for some systems and allow more varied strategies while working for a well known "doomsday" counter. However for random maps I can see how this could be a problem so restricting it to player created systems is good idea. Also the dooms-day timer for X planets need to have it blatantly shown to all players in the match lobby so all are at a even advantage. And on jamming, maybe some high energy costing radar jammer made to stop heavy artillery barrages could be a thing.
Things like this are in the PTE. Planets that collide naturally will smash each other, so games like you described are possible. I still don't see the appeal in solar flares...
The cool factor is the real appeal, and the source of the sytem feeling "alive" rather than a bunch of large spheres circling around indefinitely while still providing a controlled environment everyone knows about. It doesn't necessarily need to be solar flares, but more doomsday options however would be cool. But, should be kept on low priority before more pressing matters are dealt with. *COUGH BALANCE COUGH*
I dunno, fielding thousands of units and smashing planets really isn't lively enough for me... I guess you're right
I'm not saying this is a WE NEED THIS RIGHT FRICKEN NOW kinda thing, just something that could come later down the line. Smashing planets is awesome and the games scale is definitely huge but eventually something "new" may need to be used to recreate that awesome factor after a long lifespan. Maybe an expansion could field something like this?
Getting serious, this will more likely than not happen. Ever. The fact the incidental smashing is in the game creates that ever so tiny sliver of possibility that this could happen, but still, very unlikely.
In reference to jamming, i had a discussion with my friend who also plays recently, the conclusion was pretty much that, In PA you are constantly needing to jump around between worlds its hard enough maintaining view of enemies as it is (you can't tell me you haven't had an enemy sneak onto one of your worlds), jamming would be really pushing the extreme of micro/macro - microing your camera on top of what you are already doing - it would be very hard to keep it balanced, and not just frustrating to play against even when you do it well. (think blademasters from wc3)
Again, jamming has a small chance in PA for reasons discussed in countless threads. Also, I usually do see beachheads on my planets, unless the teleporter has been set up mere seconds after mine...
Jamming could be fine if jammer units cannot be cloaked, but instead are really, really easy to detect through radar. Like they even show what the unit is through radar alone, because they are that obvious.
