Well been playing alot and i sure like the game, but it has many flaws Orbital lasers are one of them. Problem is they 1 shot your com. it dosent matter how much defence you have on planet and in orbit, if enemy seeĀ“s your commander he can set them to port right in above him and 1 shoot him without being able to defend.. either the com needs to be able to take a punch from orbitals or a shield that can take alot of hits before it goes down.. Or Orbital lasers shouldent be able to port in right above com but at a range and then need to move, atleast then you would have some time to move the com.. To many games have been loost by players taking that cheesy way out...
The laser platforms? No they don't. They 5-shot a commander. Unless Scathis upped the damage significantly but I don't think that happened. What probably happened is the enemy saved up 5 satellites and queued an attack command. The second they land all 5 fire and that looks like a 1-shot. All that aside though, I do agree. The laser-snipe and the way orbital entry works have their problems. A way this can be fixed is entries being randomized, but I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement (or how user-friendly it'd be for that matter) Another way is making SXX laser platforms take a few seconds to charge after entering, which would make them more a defensive unit than offensive, which I wouldn't mind.
The suggestion I like the most is for units entering the orbital layer to have a couple-second inactivity period where they can't shoot, but can be fired upon. This could be shown visually by having the units descend to the normal orbital altitude from a higher entry altitude.
Yeah these are really pissing me off. I move away from my commander for litereally 5 freaking seconds., and the AI blows up my commander. and somehow manages to stay just outside the range of that thing that shoots up. Commanders is already way to fragile. It just feels like at the start of the game the commander is awesome and feels powerful. But at the mid and lategame, he becomes this annoying fragile glass piece, that you just try and hide somewhere. Really wish they would consider some upgrades or something to at least make him able to withstand something. If only we had shield domes or something, not only would that help to like make stuff like this harder, but not impossible. it would add a downside to spending all your energy, already atm nobody gets enegy storage because its almost useless. Where as if a power shield took 50.000 energy or whatever to deflect a shot, and whatever your supply runs out the shield goes down. Suddenly your want a buffer of energy. and not just to mindlessly spend it all. This sort of thing for metal would be nice and add to gameplay depth as well i feel.
However, if this was implemented, Uber could compensate by making orbital lasers less expensive, since they would no longer be able to insta-shoot whatever is beneath them. Besides, when it comes to assaulting heavily defended orbital layers, what we really need is a new unit role, which could be balanced to work with an orbital arrival delay.
no it just has lots of HP. I killed a guy like that, I made my SXX tank the umbrella fire while it shot the commander. If there's only one umbrella down there the com will die before the SXX does. It's the evilest unit ever and I love it. Do keep in mind with tons more umbrellas you would have been safe. they have bigger range then anchors, are stronger and cheaper and faster to build. So in a anchor-to-umbrella war, the umbrellas always win, even if they have less build power. So If you have 10 umbrellas around your commander, the SXX strategy is officially void. (which I don't really like, I believe there should always be a way to overwhelm your opponent's Rock with sufficient amounts of scissors)
As has been mentioned in another thread, you need to keep your commander moving in order for your commander to be safe. SXX will have a hard time landing on a commander that is moving relatively randomly about. If the SXX cannot land directly above your commander, your umbrellas (and yes, you will want more than one) and/or avenger swarm should be able to deal with SXX pretty handily
