I dont really know what are you talking about, those icons are terrible. Icons from before this patch was clear, you could easily tell your army composition. Now when selected, especially land units are really hard to distinguish. I hope it will be changed ( or an in-settings option to select old icons) if not i really look forward to a mod bringing back the old look

Welcome to the land of art, where taste is mostly subjective :)

You don't need a mod. If you have an unpatched old copy of the game, I know I do, just drag and drop a copy of their ui/main/icons/atlas/img/strategic and drop it inside your game. That isn't a mod, it is a straight up client file replacement, but it is your client and it will read whatever you simply drop in there.

That is anyone's choice to do too. It takes less than a minute to do. If it bugged me a lot, i'd have done it in a heartbeat.

Actually, it would be better if people mounted it as a mod instead of overwriting files so you don't have to do it every single time a new build is released.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/g8fxhdfvnykzqiv/legacy_icons.rar

    Unpack to AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\mods

either manually add the mod "com.pa.legacy.icons" to the mount order in mods.json, or just use the provided mods.json if this is the only mod you want to run.

    Better, but not as easy.

Another easy way, is to take supcom icons mod, and just replace THAT directory of icons with old icons. Then it won't be replaced in patches, and you have the icons you want. Basically just replacing new icons with supcom ones and then supcom ones with old ones.

I don't mind them much lol. I think current icons are sharp, but while it makes sense to some and at a rudamentary level just by design, some people dont "get" them.

I'm a fan of the sniper one. The missle.. not so much :p Are you planning/already have a icon pack? I would definitely use yours over the current honestly. For the fabbers I like the first 2. First for engineer. The second one for combat fab because they are basically medics.

I've been thinking of doing something like that, any recommendation on an icon for the missile bot?

Funny thing. I was watching the 'art' livestream for Unreal Tournament 4 the other day, and the lead artist was going on about how there's no such thing as 'bad art', and then turned around and slammed UT3's art style (along with everyone else) for being too dusty, grimy, generally brown, and hard to read.
    CONTRADICTION!

Whoops, those were sending oddly. I worked up some icons, sorry for the silly resolution, they're really sharp normally but I upscaled them to make them larger.

I'll bet you can tell what unit does what? ;)

Crosses are fabbers, but which one is combat? Empty icon is probably dox. Rocket and sniper are self explanatory, but what do circle and a dot mean - no idea. And I wouldn't have any idea about lines at the bottom if you didn't talk about them earlier. I would probably think curved means anti air...
It's also kinda inconsistent that you use personalized icon for rocket bot, but abstract for everything else.

Well I've already written which is what. :p

And the ) is at the base of the icon which means it fires in an arch whilst a _ means it fires directly. ^ is the symbol for anti-air as all anti-air units will have it. The ○ means it explodes, and since it has a _ you can assume it's the boom. Sniper and Missile bot were edge cases, or I could argue they require a special icon as they're special units. (I could in fact give every advanced unit a special icon, but does anyone want that? Not sure.)

All I know is if I followed the weapon scheme I had laid out, then the only difference between the sniper and missile bot's icon would be a ) instead of a _ which could confuse people at first glance. Also those icons may not be as special as you think, that missile could be reused for any unit who uses a missile.

I don't like them. Still using transparent strategic icons mod. Uber's new icons are too simple, in that I have no idea what a straight line inside a random shaped box means. If they allowed the little squiggles inside the icons to be just a bit more complicated, the icons would be way better. For example, instead of having a + for a fabricator, have a little:
(Then maybe use the + for combat fabber)
    stuart98 and elodea like this.

    New update, woohoo.

    Icons_new.png

Edit: Quick explanation of new stuff, the first on the third is the inferno, I gave it greyscaled to show how the colours may work within it, the one after that is the Vanguard (Signifying the Uber cannon.), and the last is the Sheller. Why are these all in the same group you may ask? Well because they all have pretty seige based roles.

The one at the very bottom is a skitter, it has a simplistic radar icon to signify that it is a scout. I figured this would be the most easily recognizable and easiest to follow through with all scouts as an icon.

There's no such thing as bad art, in his opinion.

However, no bad art doesn't mean that all art is perfect. It's not a contradiction at all.

I find that they are more intuitive but they are super hard to read and distinguish moving units. I can't tell between a t1 tank and an inferno and this is pretty crucial.
