I logged into the game client today, only to discover there was a new build released on July 2nd, and that to update the client, I'd need to download the entire thing again. It's a pretty big file - 1GB, especially considering crappy AU internet plans where available monthly bandwidth is a real issue. Is it just the OSX client, or is there really no build patch system that only downloads the necessary updates?
Yeah, I forget which patch that was. I think it's only OS X. I assume that they decided that the way paths were laid out in the OS X .app was causing too many special cases and made it more like the other platforms; unfortunately the uber launcher only seems to know files by their paths, so it saw many hundreds of MB of removals and as many more MB of additions. It's probably too late, but if you know it's coming, go to PA.app/Contents/Resources, add a `media` folder, and then move everything in Resources to media. version, buildid, and icon stay, but those are tiny.
What I did end up doing was making PA (finally) work on my PC by installing new DirectX runtimes to fix the blank screen start up issue, and now I have a working patch updater so I don't ever need to worry about this issue again However, if I ever need to return to using a Mac, I'll keep your advice in mind in the future
