So I picked up Dark Souls because everyone kept telling me it was really good. I was also completely aware that it was a terrible port (holy crap how did anyone approve it for release?). I got DSfix and DSmousefix and the game seems to run ok, except...

I see your issue. You picked thief instead of deprived.

You are no true man at all, and the game rejects you for it.

    check the dsfix configs

With random *** people? Pffft Sod that.

Anyway I fixed it by disabling AA in the ingame menu.

Go to the workshop on Steam. There are a couple of (non-workshop) plugins that are recommended, and then some workshop ones you can add on that make the DS1 port to PC playable. It's a fantastic game, but the PC port, even today, is.. barely playable without modding.

Well I got DSfix. And I can use my PS3 controller so that all works.

Today I killed the Asylum Demon and got to the second area. Where I was murdered by self-assembling skeletons half a dozen times before I raged and went back to XCOM.

Excuse me, Geers, but I happen to know that From put every single ounce of effort into the PC port.
In fact, I just so happen to have a picture of From's INCREDIBLE optimization team when they were working on the PC port.

If at first you don't succeed, go another direction.

I think that it's worth noting that with mods the PC version is by far superior. Once you get it playable it's prettier, has more consistent frame rates, and is just generally a smoother experience. AND you can add the hyper aggression mod for some REAL fun.

There are shiny things everywhere in Dark Souls.
And 90% of them want you dead.

Run up to it, grab it, go the other direction.

It's not like dying makes you lose items. Dark Souls is pretty forgiving.

I tried that. I fell off a cliff three times.

Well, you're not supposed to fall. That's counterproductive. ;)

I can't think of any items by the skeletons you'd need to jump off a cliff for.

Well there's the Zweihander, which is pretty sweet.

You need to fall off a cliff for that? The path to it isn't even close to the cliff at any part. It is sweet though.

Well no, but it's worth being knocked off the cliff a few times.
There's nothing that requires you fall off the cliff, but the skeletons are always happy to knock you off regardless.

Maybe he's talking about the Catacombs, not the graveyard.

I've never fallen off the cliffs by the firelink graveyard. The Catacombs are another matter altogether.

No the second area right after you get picked up by the giant bird presumably sent by Gandalf.
