Why are Vanguards and Infernos so good?

    To that end, I could definitely agree with you. it becomes a strategic decision to take them or not. Just leave hte direct upgrade nonsense out of it and we are good to go!

    Uh...no?

    It has 5x the HP, same Speed, double the Turn/Acceleration, 16x the DPS and full damage splash and what are it's down sides? Just double the cost and a quarter the range. I don't think that is nearly enough compensation.

    I didn't mean literally, but more it's supposed purpose, rather then the current one. :p

    The concept of those units is plain bad.
    In most games flame tanks are relativly low HP units that explose in a fireball.
    On the other hand you got these expensive, super tank like, riding fortresses that do 1, low-med damage, specialized attack.
    Infernos en Vanguards are overpowered by their nature.

    I also found those flame tanks to be almost worthless.

    At least the black op's one had decent range, but with most games it's practically melee.

    Protip: Super slow melee class units are just begging to be terrible. That's why in nearly every RTS they are buffed up to behave more like siege engines/battering rams which attack non-combatant structures.

    Reapers from Uberhack were basically Infernos but really fast and with average health. They were pretty good against the HLT forests that my friends tended to favor.
